A Red Star News reporter saw that an IP address displayed as a social media account in Guizhou, and two "smashing store" videos were released on August 25th and August 26th, respectively. In the video, a young man peels off the wallpaper of Japanese elements inside the shop, stating that he plans to "smash" the shop and turn it into a Chinese restaurant after hearing that contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Tokyo, Japan has been discharged into the sea. As of the time of publication, the account had 975 video comments posted on the 25th and 34 video comments posted on the 26th.
On August 27th, Mr. Fu, the owner of a Japanese restaurant in the video, told Red Star News that the restaurant is located in Bijie, Guizhou. His main business is actually car trading and running a gym, while catering is just a sideline and not the main source of income. The Japanese restaurant was officially put into operation in May this year, mainly to provide a place for oneself and friends to have fun and gatherings after work. Mr. Fu stated that the personnel and funds are sufficient, the business is stable, and there are no so-called "operational difficulties". The "smashing the store" mentioned in the video mainly involves tearing up Japanese wallpaper, lanterns, and other elements, smashing away some areas that need to be modified, without damaging valuable items. Due to the remaining 8 months of the store lease, he decided to make use of the store and convert it into a Chinese style tavern.
The reporter saw that on August 21st, a Japanese restaurant account posted a video saying "I can't endure it after four months of opening.". In the video, Mr. Fu claimed that he was too busy with work and didn't have enough time and energy, expressing his idea of transferring the store.
Mr. Fu said that he was indeed very angry when he heard that nuclear contaminated water had been discharged into the ocean. Posting a video, firstly to express one's anger, and secondly to inform local customers that they are preparing to transform and no longer produce Japanese cuisine, unexpectedly attracting so much attention. However, he stated that his life and business have not been affected by this storm yet. At present, the restaurant is closed for rest and will reopen after the transformation is completed. Mr. Fu emphasized to the reporter that "smashing the store" is a personal behavior and hopes that everyone will not blindly follow suit.
