Dai Zhihao, the "Old Baosteel Man" who has turned 60 years old, recently stepped down as the General Manager of Ansteel Group, a state-owned enterprise in Northeast China. At present, the introduction of the board of directors and senior executives on the official website of Ansteel Group has been updated. The reporter from Pengpai News learned from Ansteel Group that Dai Zhihao, who has reached retirement age, officially stepped down last week.

On the afternoon of November 19, 2018, Baosteel Co., Ltd., a listed company under the state-owned enterprise China Baowu, disclosed that the board of directors received a written resignation report submitted by the company's chairman, Dai Zhihao. One hour after the announcement was released, his new direction was clear: he served as a director, general manager, and deputy party secretary of another steel state-owned enterprise, Ansteel Group.

Before going north to Ansteel Group, Dai Zhihao spent over 35 years working in the steel industry at Baosteel. He graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in July 1983 and joined Baosteel in August of the same year. He has held various positions, including the director of Baosteel Cold Rolling Plant, deputy director of Baosteel International Trade Company's Planning Department, leader of Pudong Company's Preparation Group, director of Steel Trade Department 1, manager of Baosteel International Trade Company, deputy general manager of Baosteel International Trade Company, assistant general manager and sales department director of Baosteel Group, assistant general manager of Baosteel Group, president of Baosteel International Trade, and deputy general manager of Baosteel Group. From November 2007 to July 2013, he served as the Deputy General Manager of Baosteel Group.

In 2016, China's steel industry ushered in the "Baowu" century restructuring, and China Baowu Steel Group was officially unveiled at the end of that year. Starting from October 2016, Dai Zhihao served as a member of the Standing Committee of the China Baowu Party Committee, as well as a director, general manager, and member of the Party Committee of Baosteel Co., Ltd; Starting from February 2017, Dai Zhihao replaced Chen Derong as the Chairman and Party Secretary of Baosteel Co., Ltd. During the three and a half years before assuming the position of Chairman of Baosteel Group, Dai Zhihao served as the General Manager of Baosteel Group.

Dai Zhihao was also the first chairman of Baosteel after its stock exchange and merger with Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation. At that time, Baosteel Corporation had introduced this "old Baosteel man" on its official website, stating that he had rich experience in production and marketing management in steel enterprises, as well as experience in resource trade and financial management. Dai Zhihao obtained a Master's degree in Economics from the University of West Virginia in August 1996.

It is worth mentioning that four and a half years ago, when Dai Zhihao was just transferred to Ansteel Group, it further sparked speculation among the outside world about the "Bao'an merger". Baosteel Corporation issued a clarification notice on November 21, 2018. The subsequent direction of the matter was that on August 20, 2021, the Ansteel Restructuring Conference of Benxi Steel was held at 10:00 am in Anshan City, Liaoning Province. The State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Liaoning Province transferred 51% of the equity of Benxi Steel to Ansteel for free, and Benxi Steel became a controlling subsidiary of Ansteel.

During Dai Zhihao's tenure at Ansteel Group, it was also a crucial year for the group to open a new chapter in its development history. In addition to the external restructuring mentioned above, Ansteel Group has also undergone significant self transformation before. In 2020, the group invested a huge amount of money with the help of the whole group, achieving several major tasks that had been wanted but not achieved in the past, and solving some historical problems that had been unsolved for a long time, namely the two reforms of factory collective reform and the socialization management of retirees.

After the restructuring of Baosteel in 2021, Ansteel Group has a production capacity of 53 million tons of iron, 63 million tons of steel, 40000 tons of vanadium products, and 500000 tons of titanium products. It has nine production bases in Northeast, Southwest, Southeast, and South China, making it the second largest steel enterprise in China and the third largest in the world.
