The Niger military government expels the French ambassador to Nepal
Niamey News: On the evening of September 1st, the Minister of Interior, Public Security, and Land Management of the Niger Military Government, Mohammad Tunba, issued a statement on national television, ordering the immediate expulsion of the French Ambassador to Nepal.
The statement states that the Niger military government has notified relevant departments that it will take all means to expel French Ambassador to Nepal, Sylvan Itay, and this order will take effect immediately from the date of its issuance.
The National Committee for the Defense of the Motherland of Niger issued a statement on the evening of the 1st, stating that French President Macron recently made remarks about the situation in Niger, attempting to divide the people of Niger, but the people of Niger have the right to decide their own destiny.
On the 1st, the French Presidential Palace released a video on its social media account, in which Macron publicly expressed support for President Bazum, who was detained by the Niger military government, and did not recognize the Niger military government. Macron also stated that he would make relevant decisions based on communication with Bazum.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Niger Military Government issued a statement on August 25th, demanding that the French Ambassador to Nepal, Sylvan Itay, leave within 48 hours. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on the same evening that the Niger military government has no right to demand the departure of the French ambassador.
On July 26th, some soldiers of the Niger Presidential Guard detained President Bazum. Late that night, military representatives of the coup announced on Niger's national television the establishment of the National Committee for the Defense of the Motherland, lifting President Bazum's authority and allowing the military regime to take over national affairs.
