CCTV News: Today, the Ministry of Natural Resources released China's first "China Ecological Protection Red Line Blue Book". The Blue Book shows that China has set a total ecological protection red line area of about 3.19 million square kilometers, of which the land ecological protection red line area is about 3.04 million square kilometers, accounting for more than 30% of the land area, covering all 35 priority areas for biodiversity protection in China, and more than 90% of typical ecosystem types.
The ecological protection red line is concentrated in areas such as the Qinghai Tibet Plateau ecological zone, the Yellow River key ecological zone, the Yangtze River key ecological zone, and the coastal zone of the northern sand prevention zone. In the specific delineation process, the state adheres to the combination of "should be fully delineated" and seeking truth from facts, identifying areas with extremely important ecological functions and areas with extremely fragile ecology, and delineating them into the ecological protection red line.
The Ministry of Natural Resources stated that the ecological protection red line is a representative achievement and significant institutional innovation in the construction of ecological civilization. China has taken the lead in proposing and implementing the ecological protection red line system internationally, achieving large-scale and comprehensive protection of important natural resources, ecological spaces, rare and endangered species and habitats, and providing a Chinese solution for global ecological protection and governance.
