Two of them had second to third degree burns on 95% and 61% of their bodies, respectively, and the situation was dangerous.
Yu Fenger, Director of the Institute of Chemistry at Zhongshan Academy of Sciences, stated that waste materials will be generated during the weapon manufacturing process and need to be destroyed every week. On the 3rd, four batches of waste materials were scheduled to be destroyed, but during the execution of the third batch, the gunpowder suddenly ignited.
Yu Fenger said that each batch of waste materials and gunpowder being destroyed weighs about 200 to 400 kilograms, and the temperature of the gunpowder after flash ignition can reach as high as 2000 to 3000 degrees Celsius. Even if the execution personnel wear flameproof clothing, they can only withstand high temperatures of 800 to 1000 degrees Celsius. Therefore, these four individuals still suffered burns of varying degrees.
Yu Fenger said that the waste materials will be collected and placed in the waste disposal plant in advance. When carrying out the disposal operation, the personnel of the disposal plant will flatten the waste and return it to an indoor area 150 meters away. Four personnel will be left on site to connect the wires. After completing the wiring, these four people will also return to the control room, and only then will they be electrified and detonated. But for some unknown reason on the 3rd, after wiring, there was a gunpowder flash fire before power was connected. A project team has been established to investigate.
