As a transportation hub, Yangzhou East High speed Railway Station was frequently complained that the exit could not directly access the underground taxi waiting area, and a large number of taxis and online taxi hailing stopped outside the station illegally to solicit passengers. Xia Zhengdong, Director of Yangzhou Transportation Bureau, stated that the above situation is objectively due to insufficient estimation of passenger flow design at Yangzhou East Station. Some taxis can only park on the ground to wait for passengers. The transportation department will cooperate with the public security department to strengthen management and solve the problem by widening nearby roads and building parking lots.
Recently, the Yangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Government launched the integrated media political inquiry program "Political Affairs Face to Face", with the first episode focusing on the operation and management issues of Yangzhou East Station. According to reports, at around 9 pm on June 21st, Yangzhou East Station experienced a wave of passenger flow before the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. A large number of passengers left the station and took a taxi on the Fireworks March Road opposite the station square. Taxis and ride hailing services directly pulled passengers on the no stop section, forming a hundred meter long queue, blocking the road completely. A taxi driver claimed that the design of Yangzhou East Station is unreasonable, and the underground taxi waiting area at the transfer center is not only difficult to find, but also has low boarding efficiency. Passengers need to go to the ground first after exiting the station, then turn and enter the underground parking lot to take a taxi, and there are no parking spots arranged for online ride hailing.
Xia Zhengdong analyzed in the program that the designed daily passenger flow of Yangzhou East Station is 9000 people, but the passenger flow of Yangzhou East Station has continued to rise since the beginning of this year. During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the daily passenger flow of the station reached 45500 people, far exceeding the designed passenger flow. The supporting facilities of the high-speed railway station do not match the current large passenger flow. For example, in the taxi waiting area, only 60 cars can be parked, and many cars have to park on the road to queue up for passengers.
Xia Zhengdong stated that in order to address the pain points, the transportation department will widen four lanes on the west side of Yanhua March Road near Yangzhou East Station, allowing vehicles to stop and walk immediately to ensure smooth traffic on the road. In response to the roast of online taxi drivers that there is no parking lot, the local will build a social parking lot at the station to meet the parking demand.
On December 11, 2020, the Yangzhou East Station of the Lianhuaiyang Town Railway was officially put into operation, marking the beginning of the "high-speed rail era" in Yangzhou. The currently under construction North Yangtze River High Speed Railway will also pass through Yangzhou East Station. In the future, the station building of Yangzhou East Station will be expanded, and the north-south Lianhuaiyang Town Railway will be interconnected with the east-west North Yangtze River High Speed Railway in Yangzhou.
