The Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly opposes and strongly condemns the illegal sanctions imposed by the United States on Chinese officials through issues related to Tibet
On August 23rd, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin presided over a regular press conference.
Bloomberg reporter asked, the United States announced on the 22nd that it would impose visa restrictions on some Chinese officials, saying that these officials were suspected of sending children in Xizang to boarding schools for "forced assimilation". What is the spokesperson's comment on this?
According to Wang Wenbin, the US has disregarded facts and imposed illegal sanctions on Chinese officials through the Tibet issue, seriously interfering in China's internal affairs, seriously damaging China's interests, and seriously violating the basic norms of international relations. China firmly opposes and strongly condemns this.
Wang Wenbin pointed out that human rights in Xizang are at the best time in history, which is obvious to the international community. For a long time, Xizang's economy has flourished, society has been harmonious and stable, cultural traditions have been protected and promoted, and people of all ethnic groups' rights and freedoms, including freedom of religious belief and freedom to use and develop their own languages, have been fully guaranteed.
Wang Wenbin said that, like international practice, boarding schools in China are set up according to the needs of local students and are available in various provinces and regions of China. In Xizang, China, due to the high altitude in some areas, the population is very scattered, especially the herdsmen children have a long way to go to and from school. It is difficult to ensure the number of teachers and the quality of teaching in decentralized schools. In order to guarantee the equal right of all children to enjoy education, boarding schools have been set up according to actual needs. Boarding schools are completely dependent on the wishes and needs of students and parents. Boarding students can choose to go home every weekend and holiday, including Tibetan New Year, Shelton Day and other traditional Tibetan festivals, as well as winter and summer holidays. Parents can visit their children at any time, or pick them up at any time as needed. At the same time, schools generally offer traditional cultural courses such as Tibetan language and ethnic dance, providing high-altitude traditional food, and students can also wear ethnic costumes during their school years.

"Xizang boarding schools are just a vivid case of protecting Xizang's human rights and cultural traditions, and the so-called 'forced assimilation' is nothing," said Wang Wenbin.
Wang Wenbin pointed out that in contrast to the United States, over 4.7 million Native Americans have been brutally massacred in history, and ethnic minorities such as African Americans and Asians have suffered from racial discrimination. In recent years, the armed aggression of the United States has caused millions of deaths in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria. The United States should truly reflect on itself, rather than pretending to be a judge, wielding a human rights baton, and recklessly interfering in the internal affairs of other countries.
Wang Wenbin stressed that Xizang affairs are purely China's internal affairs and cannot be interfered by any external forces. The United States should respect the facts, abide by its commitment on Tibet related issues, stop using Tibet related issues to interfere in China's internal affairs and harm China's interests, and immediately revoke the wrong decision, otherwise China will make a firm and strong response.
