The Ministry of Foreign Affairs apologizes that the "black prison" is a typical example of the United States trampling on the rule of law and human rights. Maoning | Human Rights
On June 28th, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked, according to reports, recently, a United Nations special envoy pointed out after inspecting Guantanamo Prison that inmates are still subjected to inhumane treatment by the United States, and the US government should take responsibility for its actions and apologize, provide assistance, and compensate the victims. What is China's comment on this?
Mao Ning stated that over the past 20 years, Guantanamo Prison has continuously exposed scandals of prisoner abuse, causing great outrage in the international community. The United States has repeatedly promised to close this prison, but to this day, Guantanamo Prison still holds dozens of people, with only a few charged or convicted.
She pointed out that over the years, under the pretext of the so-called war on terror, the United States has established "black prisons" in at least 54 countries and regions, secretly detaining so-called terrorist suspects, engaging in arbitrary detention and torture to extract confessions, and the Guantanamo prison is just the tip of the iceberg.
Mao Ning said, "The 'black prison' is a typical example of the United States trampling on the rule of law and human rights. The United States should reflect on the human rights violations committed, apologize and compensate the victims, and hold accountable those who authorize and commit torture."
