The leader of South Korea's largest opposition party announced an indefinite hunger strike: protesting against the "tyranny" of the Yoon Seok yeol government
On August 31st, Lee Jae myung, the leader of South Korea's largest opposition party, the Democratic Party of Korea, announced an indefinite hunger strike and sit in protest against President Yoon Seok yeol's "tyranny".
On August 31st at 13:00, Lee Jae ming began a sit in protest in a tent in front of the main building of the South Korean parliament, hanging banners and slogans, vowing to "promote democracy.". Li Zaiming, dressed in a white shirt and without a tie, sat cross legged at a small table. Party whip Park Kwong chun, Secretary General Zhao Zhengshi and others were present to assist in the battle.
Li Zaiming made three demands: Yoon Seok yeol should apologize to the South Korean people for damaging their livelihoods and democracy, oppose Japan's discharge of nuclear wastewater, and completely reorganize the cabinet.
On the same day, Lee Jae ming held a press conference on the first anniversary of his inauguration as the party leader in the National Assembly, stating that South Korea currently has economic problems. Recently, small businesses in South Korea have been struggling due to high interest rates and rising energy prices. According to preliminary verification data released by the South Korean Customs Agency on August 21st, South Korea's export volume in the first 20 days of August decreased by 16.5% year-on-year, to 27.856 billion US dollars. During the same period, the import volume decreased by 27.9% year-on-year, to 31.421 billion US dollars. The trade balance showed a deficit of 3.566 billion US dollars, which has increased from the deficit in the first 10 days of this month and is twice that of the same period in July. The cumulative trade deficit this year is 28.404 billion US dollars.
Li Zaimeng then mentioned the stampede accident of Itaewon in 2022, claiming that "this was caused by the incompetent and shameless government's failure to take measures", and said that "the Republic of Korea is collapsing because the Yin Xiyue regime has given up the people's livelihood".
As for the issue of Japan's nuclear wastewater discharge into the sea, facing opposition and criticism from the public, Yoon Seok yeol, who supports Japan's discharge into the sea, compared the domestic opposition to Japan's nuclear wastewater discharge into the sea in South Korea to "1+1=100", stating that she "has no choice but to fight against these anti scientific forces.".
In this regard, Li Zaiming announced that he will prevent the tyranny of the Yin Xiyue government from undermining the democratic system with a mentality of putting death to death and surviving. Today, he will begin to use the last resort of an indefinite hunger strike. Li Zaiming stated that from today on, he will join the people in fighting against the "incompetent tyranny" of the Yin Xiyue government as a member of the people and protect democracy together with the people.
Li Zaiming said, "The government of Yin Xiyue has disrupted constitutional order and democracy, and declared war on the people." "I will use the determination to sacrifice my life to prevent democracy from being destroyed. As a last resort, I will start an indefinite hunger strike from today."
