The International Olympic Committee revokes recognition of the International Boxing Federation. Executive Committee | Boxing | International
On the 22nd local time in Lausanne, the International Olympic Committee held an online plenary session and decided to revoke recognition of the International Boxing Federation based on the recommendation of the Executive Committee.
Boxing has been an Olympic sport since 1904, but due to issues such as governance, refereeing, finance, and professional ethics, the International Olympic Committee suspended its recognition of the International Boxing Federation in 2019 and subsequently revoked its qualification to operate boxing events at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee has requested a series of reforms from the International Boxing Federation, but a report released earlier this month showed that the Federation has failed to meet the conditions set by the International Olympic Committee. Therefore, the International Olympic Committee Executive Board recommends that the International Olympic Committee plenary session revoke recognition of the International Boxing Federation.
In order to protect the interests of boxers and boxing events, the International Olympic Committee has decided to accept the recommendation of the Executive Committee to retain boxing at next year's Paris Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee has made adjustments to Olympic events to make them more accessible to young audiences. However, revoking recognition of an international sports federation is still quite unusual.
