According to a local television station in Fukushima, Japan on the 12th, the Fukushima nuclear contaminated water discharge equipment began trial operation on the morning of the same day.
Tokyo Electric Power Company of Japan stated that a trial operation will mix fresh water and seawater, and use a drainage pump to discharge the mixed water through an underwater tunnel to the tunnel outlet 1 kilometer away from the coast, ultimately flowing into the ocean to confirm the reliable operation of the discharge equipment. The trial operation is expected to last for 2 weeks.
On the 10th, during a meeting with fisheries officials from Miyagi, Fukushima, and Ibaraki prefectures, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, Yasumi Nishimura, several fishery group leaders, including the Fukushima Prefectural Fisheries Association Federation, once again expressed opposition to the Japanese government and TEPCO's unilateral push for the Fukushima nuclear contaminated water discharge plan into the sea.
