The French Minister of Justice warns that parents of underage rioters may face imprisonment and fines | France | Minors
Recently, the shooting of a 17-year-old African American boy by French police sparked riots, with many minors involved. Macron called on parents to take good care of their children.
On June 27th, in the city of Nantes in the Haute Seine department of France, a police officer stopped a car and opened fire, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old driver. At present, the shooting officer has been detained on suspicion of intentional homicide, and the prosecution has begun an investigation into this incident.
On July 1st local time, French Minister of Justice Moretti warned that if parents do not take responsibility for their children, they will face up to 2 years in prison and a fine of 30000 euros.
According to the French media "20 Minutes", Moretti said on Saturday on his way to court, "If parents don't care about their children and let their children go out for a walk at night, they may face two years in prison and a fine of 30000 euros."
"Raising children is not the responsibility of the state. The state can help parents, but cannot replace them," Moretti added.
The Ministry of Justice announced on June 30th that if parents do not attend their children's hearing, they may also be fined 3700 euros.

Macron also called on all parents to take responsibility and keep their children at home on the 30th. He pointed out, "Everyone has seen that the organized, violent, and armed groups that have caused today's situation... many are young people. One third of the troublemakers arrested the night before were young people."
French Interior Minister Dalmanin said earlier that during the riots from the evening of June 30 to the early morning of July 1, the police arrested more than 1300 people across the country, and the average age of the arrested rioters was only 17.
According to the European Times, Fabien Truong, a sociology professor at the Paris Eight University, the "frontline young people" who participate in violent conflicts are likely to come from families with multiple children. "There are also many children's parents who work at night in logistics, cleaning, and public service industries... When children go out late at night, these parents are not at home at all.".
