According to several Japanese media outlets including Kyodo News Agency, the first trial of the Kyoto Animation arson case took place on the morning of September 5th local time. The suspect, Makoto Aoba, who suffered severe burns in the case, appeared in court in a wheelchair.
Qingye Zhensi
Qingye Zhensi has been charged with five charges, including murder and attempted murder. In court, he admitted to the relevant charges listed in the indictment, stating, "There is no doubt I did it. But I never thought so many people would die." Kyoto News reported that the person who appeared in court that day, Maki Aoba, shaved his head, sat in a wheelchair, and wore long sleeves. He did not look at the audience seat.
On July 18, 2019, there was an arson and murder case at Jingani First Studio, resulting in 36 deaths and 33 injuries. All three story studios were burned down, and Shinji Aoba himself was severely burned in the fire. The final verdict of the Jingani incident is scheduled to be announced in January 2024.
