On June 11th, the ± 800 kV ultra-high voltage direct current transmission project from Ningxia to Hunan and the Miluo pumped storage power station began construction comprehensively.
The Ningxia Hunan ultra-high voltage project is the first ultra-high voltage transmission channel in China that focuses on developing desert photovoltaic bases and transmitting new energy. It passes through five provinces: Ningxia, Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hubei, and Hunan, with a total length of 1634 kilometers. After completion in 2025, it can transmit over 36 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to Hunan annually. The Miluo Pumped Storage Power Station has newly built four 300000 kilowatt reversible generator units, which is the fourth Pumped Storage Power Station constructed and operated by State Grid in Hunan. It will play the role of a "stabilizer" and "regulator" to ensure the safe operation of the power grid and a "power bank" to support the development of new energy.
As a new responsibility for the rise of central China and the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, Hunan has maintained rapid economic and social development in recent years. However, primary energy resources are relatively scarce, and there is a strong demand for electricity supply outside the region. After the completion of the Ningxia Hunan ultra-high voltage project, it will play an important role in meeting the reliable supply of electricity. After the completion of the Miluo Pumped Storage Power Station, the total installed capacity of State Grid for pumping and storage operation in central China will exceed 20 million kilowatts, which can greatly enhance the peak supply capacity of Hunan and central China power grids.
After the two projects are put into operation, the scale of power transmission in Ningxia will exceed 20 million kilowatts, effectively promoting the development and optimization of new energy transmission and large-scale configuration, and opening a new chapter in the development and utilization of "Sha Ge Huang" energy; Hunan will form an energy supply pattern with ultra-high voltage direct current cross regional channels as direct power supply guarantee, ultra-high voltage AC backbone network as inter provincial mutual support, and Huazhong pumped storage power station group as adjustment means, better promoting high-quality economic and social development and people's livelihood guarantee between the two regions.
The "Ningdian to Hunan" project will deliver green and clean electricity, with new energy accounting for more than 50%. It will become an innovative project for Ningxia to achieve the "dual carbon" goal, achieve high proportion and stable transmission of new energy, and a demonstration project to build a new power system and achieve large-scale optimization of new energy allocation. By 2025, the installed capacity of new energy in Ningxia will exceed 55 million kilowatts, and the annual power generation of new energy will exceed 85 billion kilowatt hours. It can save over 26 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 70 million tons annually.
At the same time, the construction of Tengger Desert New Energy Base, the first national ten million kilowatt "Sago Desert" new energy base supporting the project, is also stepping up. On April 26th, the first phase of the 1 million kilowatt photovoltaic project was successfully connected to the grid for power generation. By the end of 2024, the scale of this new energy cluster will reach 13 million kilowatts, and the annual output of 18 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity will be sent to Hunan through the Ningxia to Hunan ultra-high voltage project.
