Xinhua News Agency, "Xuelong 2" (August 2) - At 1:50 am Beijing time on August 2, with the completion of the ocean optical survey at the 10th station on the midship deck of the "Xuelong 2" polar scientific expedition icebreaker, the first fully completed work project of China's 13th Arctic scientific expedition organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources emerged.
The ocean optical observation project belongs to the field of ocean scientific research, and a total of 10 observation stations are arranged for this scientific research. This project utilizes professional scientific research equipment to detect solar irradiance at different depths in the ocean, used to measure the absorption and attenuation process of solar radiation energy in the ocean.
Associate Professor Zhong Wenli from Ocean University of China introduced that ocean optics research can help answer a series of questions such as how solar energy enters the ocean, how it is absorbed by the ocean, and where it is ultimately consumed. "Related studies have shown that the sea surface temperature of the Chukchi Sea has shown a significant upward trend in the past 20-30 years, which is closely related to the ocean absorbing more solar shortwave radiation energy. The warming of the sea surface plays an important role in promoting the melting of Arctic sea ice."

The 13th Arctic Scientific Expedition Team of China arrived at its first operational site located in the Chukchi Sea on the afternoon of July 26th Beijing time, officially beginning its oceanic scientific research mission.
At present, the oceanic scientific research assignment is ongoing. According to the schedule, the oceanic scientific research assignment in the Chukotchi Sea will end in mid August.
