The opening ceremony of the athlete village and the welcome ceremony of the Chinese delegation for the 31st Summer Universiade in Chengdu were held today on the China Youth Daily website, Chengdu, July 22. At present, more than 300 members of the Chinese delegation's representative teams and team members in 13 events, including Taekwondo, martial arts, judo, tennis, table tennis, archery, swimming, diving, men's water polo, athletics, men's basketball, women's basketball, and artistic gymnastics, have successfully moved into the Athletes Village.
At the village opening ceremony, Wang Jiayi, Deputy Minister of Education and Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Universiade, stated that the official opening of the Athletes Village means that university athletes from all over the world are fully prepared for their racing homes in Chengdu. "We stand in China, in Chengdu, and in the Universiade Village, sending sincere invitations to young people from all countries and regions around the world, 'Joining in the Youth Festival, Blooming with Vitality', to enhance understanding and develop friendship among young people around the world, promote the common values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy, and freedom for all mankind, promote cultural exchange and mutual learning of civilizations, and work together to create a better future for humanity."
Eric Senchao, Secretary General and CEO of the International University Sports Federation, stated that after two years of delay, university athletes from all over the world have finally gathered in Chengdu. During the Universiade, they will compete and explore the future together. "The opening of the athlete village is a symbolic moment, and we can truly feel the efforts behind the organizing committee and volunteers for this moment. The Universiade village will be one of the most important sports legacies of this Universiade."
According to Xian Rongsheng, the head of Dayun Village, Dayun Village focuses on "food, housing, transportation", "competition, shopping, entertainment" and other aspects, providing various representative teams with different flavors of food from around the world, equipped with autonomous driving buses, new generation AI intelligent translation and other technological facilities. At the same time, various cultural activities will also be carried out within the Dayun Village, including Chinese excellent traditional culture experience activities, "Chinese Bridge" Chinese learning interactive experience activities, etc., to promote cultural exchange and mutual learning among the youth of various delegations.
As the first batch of athletes to move into the Universiade Village, Tang Qianhui, a tennis player from the Chinese delegation at the Chengdu Universiade, said, "The environment here is very good, and the volunteers are also very enthusiastic. I will do my best to achieve good results in this competition."
The Chengdu Universiade will be held from July 28th to August 8th, with a total of 18 major events and 269 sub events. Education activities such as the FISU World Academic Conference and various cultural exchange activities will also be held, and multiple boutique spot routes will be launched to further promote communication between Chinese university athletes and university athletes from various countries and regions around the world.
