On August 17th, according to a video report from Jiupai News, a netizen recently posted an article claiming that their doctoral friend was scammed to Myanmar on August 16th, 2022, and has been forced to work 18 hours a day for a year now, while being closely monitored.
On August 17, the reporter contacted the doctor's girlfriend Ms. Yang, who said that her boyfriend graduated from the Institute of Earth Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and later engaged in post doctoral research.
According to it, Mr. Zhang had a debt problem of tens of thousands of yuan a year ago. After being introduced, he thought he was going to Singapore to work as a translator, but he was eventually deceived and sent to Myanmar. "He had a loss in coin trading before, and his family conditions were average. His mother was paralyzed, and he saw online that his salary was very high."
After entering the park, Mr. Zhang sent a message to his girlfriend saying that his phone was no longer working and he could only communicate with other phones. Ms. Yang said that Mr. Zhang's daily work is to chat with others and he works for a long time.
Ms. Yang stated that the Myanmar side requested her to transfer 120000 yuan in order to release the person, but after the transfer, she found that her account was frozen and unable to proceed with the transfer. She also learned that her boyfriend was beaten, locked up, and imprisoned as a result.

On August 17th, Mr. Zhang's former staff member at the Lushan Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences stated that Mr. Zhang is honest, his doctoral research focuses on ancient plants, and his English is very good.
After knowing this, Mr. Zhang's brother chose to call the police, and the staff of the police station where the registered residence is located said that they had reported this matter to the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.
It is reported that on March 23 this year, the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar pointed out during a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Myanmar that multiple recent incidents of Chinese personnel crossing the border to Myanmar have a background in illegal activities such as online fraud within Myanmar.
The Myanmar side stated that it attaches great importance to the position repeatedly expressed by the Chinese side and has intensified efforts to carry out crackdowns.
In addition, on June 7th, the International Criminal Police Organization released a research report on human trafficking and issued an orange notification to 195 member countries, including Myanmar, reminding them to be vigilant about human trafficking caused by telecommunications fraud.
