The Consulate General urgently reminds that the number of victims of wildfires in Hawaii has increased to 53, including residential fires and fatalities
On the afternoon of the 10th, Maui County, Hawaii, USA, released the latest report stating that search and rescue personnel found 17 bodies at the scene of the fire on the same day. In addition to 36 bodies discovered on the 9th, the wildfire has caused at least 53 deaths.
The report states that as of the afternoon of the 10th, 80% of the wildfire codenamed "La Haina" has been controlled, 70% of the wildfire codenamed "Plehu" has been controlled, and the controlled status of the wildfire codenamed "Maoyi Inland" still needs to be evaluated.
According to the Hawaii Emergency Management Department, the wildfire began on the 8th and quickly spread due to strong winds and environmental drought caused by the hurricane, posing a threat to over 35000 people, local homes, businesses, and infrastructure on Maui Island. The area of the wildfire has exceeded 2000 acres.
Among them, La Haina, a famous tourist town on Maui Island, was the hardest hit. The reporter saw from the relevant aerial footage that the entire town, except for one coastal building, was basically burned down. Local residents said that the wildfire spread rapidly, causing explosions at gas stations and shore yachts, resulting in serious casualties.
Hawaii Governor Josh Green announced earlier on the 10th that US President Biden has declared a major disaster in the state and approved federal support.
Maoi County includes islands such as Maoi Island and Lanai Island. Maui Island is the second largest island in the Hawaiian Islands, with a population of over 100000.
