Open up a new perspective and use singing to convey the Chengdu symbol
Rong Piao, college students, cross-border musicians, and street artists, in the "Listening to the Voice of Dreams" Universiade Music Talent Growth Plan, musicians from various fields gather together with the same passion and become partners. They follow their mentors to exchange ideas and create, colliding with different styles to create new sparks of inspiration, adding their own strength to the Chengdu Universiade.
In the creative process, in order to vividly interpret the cultural characteristics of Chengdu and create music works with local cultural charm, the students went deep into various parts of the city to gather inspiration. The inspiration for the song "Ah Rongbao" came from the observation experience of the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base. After seeing giant pandas eating bamboo shoots and climbing trees up close, singer Zhao Tongxuan said, "After this interesting and meaningful experience, I had the inspiration to write a song for Rongbao."
The Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is the real image of the mascot of the Universiade, Rongbao - the habitat of the giant panda "Sesame". It is named after the iconic "black sesame seed" dot on its mouth. In 2020, Sesame stood out in global voting and was elected as the prototype of Rongbao. As a unique cultural symbol of Sichuan and even China, giant pandas not only carry the profound accumulation of Tianfu culture, but also become a unique business card for foreign exchanges. From the popularity of Rongbao, related badges, figurines, plush toys, and other globally popular products, to the music creation of "Oh Rongbao", they are all conveying China's friendly voice to the world and building bridges of friendship at home and abroad through cultural commonalities.
Interpreting the Voice of Dreams, Using Music to Assist the Universiade
"What is the voice of your dream in your heart?" Faced with this question, in the collection of promotional songs for the 31st Chengdu Summer Universiade, the trainees of the training camp provided their answers using their works.
With a lively and jumping music style and a "soft and cute" confession, "Oh Rongbao" takes the perspective of the mascot of the Chengdu Universiade, Rongbao, and uses music to record Rongbao's life: welcoming friends from all over the world, cheering for the competition, and occasionally wanting to compete with athletes. The song creator also shared, "I hope to treat myself as a panda translator, bringing more humorous and vivid expressions."
In the upcoming training camp student works to be released in the future, "Light Up" is co created and performed by outstanding musicians from the "Music Creative Talent Support Project" and university students, providing the most enthusiastic support for athletes on the field; Taking inspiration from the streets of Chengdu, "Applause for the Future" integrates the long-term interactive experience of street performers, and opens up to the world with a happy and open attitude; The original intention is not only to cheer for athletes, but also to dedicate it to all dream youths. Among them, there are many outstanding creators of the "Music Creative Talent Support Project", as well as outstanding singers and musicians of Chengdu street artists. It is precisely because of the year-round project support that Chengdu has created a rich music atmosphere and an open and inclusive performance environment. Surrounding Chengdu, which has nurtured talents, and the upcoming Universiade, musicians use melodies and lyrics to interpret the "voice of dreams".
Chengdu street artists have also brought music performances at multiple locations throughout the city, allowing more citizens to experience the youthful and upward atmosphere of the Universiade and listen to the voices of their dreams.
