The 31st World University Summer Games will open in Chengdu on the evening of July 28th, with the theme promotion song "Love is the Same" singing globally.
"Music is a common language that knows no borders, races, or beliefs, allowing people to truly connect together." Wang Pingjiu, the lyricist and deputy editor in chief of the Film Channel Program Center, said in an interview with the People's Daily China Forum that the song conveys the pursuit of dreams and expectations for a better future. It is hoped that people from all over the world can experience Chengdu's enthusiasm, tolerance, the efforts of young people, and the rich culture of integrating the four directions through this international competition.
Wang Pingjiu and musician Chang Shilei can be said to be a pair of gold medal partners. Together, they have created popular classic works such as "Wuhan, How Are You?", "We Are All Dream Chasers", and "Together Towards the Future.". This time, they took on a new challenge together - creating songs for the Chengdu Universiade.
When it comes to the creative process of the song, Wang Pingjiu said that before writing the lyrics, he and Chang Shilei will first set the theme, which is "love is the same", expressing that the love given by young people from all over the world is the same concept. After determining the theme, they gradually refined the lyrics based on the background, artistic conception, and context of the song, and finally composed it by Chang Shilei. "The reason why music is more charming than ordinary words is that it has melody, which has infinite charm. Through the carrier of melody, the audience can remember the words and also remember their connotations."

What are the differences in song composition between sports events and other large-scale events? In Chang Shilei's view, songs for sports events need to be widely sung, so the simpler the lyrics, the greater the tension. Coupled with lyrics that combine Chinese and English, the emotions and feelings of people from different countries can be better expressed, achieving a widespread singing effect.
"Good music has a great impact on sports events," Wang Pingjiu said. For sports, music is not only encouragement, but also a spiritual embedding. Sports are actions, while music has a feeling of speaking. When music and sports are together, there are actions, visuals, and language, which is very beautiful, just like movies.
"In the current environment of developed internet, besides air and sunlight, I think music has the fastest transmission speed. It can gather the familiar feelings in many people's daily lives," said Chang Shilei.
