The BRICS Summit Defends Multilateralism and Injects Deterministic Countries into a Turbulent World | The BRICS Summit
Against the backdrop of the Ukrainian crisis and the US's efforts to isolate Russia and China, some Western media tirelessly poured cold water on the upcoming 15th BRICS summit in South Africa, exaggerating so-called internal conflicts within the BRICS countries. However, to his disappointment, the first face-to-face meeting of BRICS leaders after the COVID-19 epidemic will not only be held in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24 as scheduled, but also on a larger scale. More than 60 leaders from Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Caribbean, as well as about 20 heads of international organizations, including the United Nations and the African Union, were invited to attend the conference. This reflects the strategic autonomy of the BRICS countries, which is not influenced by the Western agenda, and the global unity of the South under the principles of the BRICS countries.
For a long time, developed Western countries have ignored the international responsibility of helping Africa effectively promote growth under the influence of the United States, and have been exploiting and exploiting the African continent. Moreover, the United States and its allies have falsely labeled other countries' investments and cooperation in African countries as "neocolonialism", preferring to stagnate the African continent rather than usher in an era of innovative development.
Despite the constant sowing of discord between the United States and the West, BRICS cooperation is an unstoppable trend. The Johannesburg Summit, with the theme of "BRICS and Africa: Deepening Partnership, Promoting Mutual Growth, Achieving Sustainable Development, and Strengthening Inclusive Multilateralism," will not only benefit the five countries, but also other participating countries and organizations. It will build a platform for exchange and cooperation, and facilitate the exploration of cooperation potential through mechanisms such as "BRICS+.".
Unlike any conference meticulously planned by the United States under the guise of "values" or claiming to maintain a "rule-based order," the BRICS summit is neither a forum for forming factions around a single country, nor a platform for reshaping global industries and supply chains under the guise of "risk reduction" for narrow self-interest. The real risk comes from some countries surrendering strategic autonomy to the United States, which cannot even manage its own affairs.
The experience and achievements of the past fourteen BRICS summits have proven that the Johannesburg Summit will promote cooperation rather than decoupling, adhere to multilateralism rather than unilateralism, inject new vitality into BRICS countries, and add new certainty to a turbulent world.
