The Beautiful Yangtze River | The Ancient Waterway in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River Shines with "Green" New Vitality Energy | The Reservoir Area | The Yangtze River
The Jinsha River is an important component of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. In the past, due to the high mountains and deep valleys on both sides of the strait, as well as the numerous natural waterways and rapids, the development of water transportation was limited.
In the past decade, four large power stations, including Xiangjiaba and Baihetan, have been built to store water. The Jinsha River has formed a long distance deep-water waterway in the reservoir area, greatly improving shipping conditions.
The Jinsha River is now bustling with thousands of tons of ships passing through smoothly. Exporting phosphate ore, sand and gravel from the reservoir area along the river effectively promotes local economic development.
The downstream section of the Jinsha River has a narrow and steep valley, characterized by high dams, high slopes, high flow velocity, high seismic intensity, large flood discharge capacity, large single unit capacity, and large underground powerhouse caverns. The four hydropower stations have multiple construction indicators and comprehensive difficulties that rank among the top in the world.
The four giant cascade hydropower stations of Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, and Xiangjiaba, along with the downstream Three Gorges and Gezhouba hydropower stations, jointly form a world-class clean energy corridor, bearing the major responsibility of conserving and restoring the ecological environment of the Yangtze River Basin.
