The average size of the Chinese TV market has exceeded 60 inches, and the size of color TVs is getting larger and larger: in June, color TVs | TVs | sizes
A television is a unique window. On the one hand, people can enjoy a colorful world through television; On the other hand, the size, quality, and functionality of televisions directly reflect people's quality of life and consumption preferences. Recently, some market institutions have successively released reports on the color TV market for the first half of 2023. Multiple reports indicate that the size of Chinese home color televisions is becoming increasingly larger.
According to the report Monthly Tracking of the Global LCD TV Panel Market released by Lotu Technology, the total number of TV panel factories in Chinese Mainland has reached 81.45 million pieces, and their share in the global market has reached a record high of 70%. Among them, large-sized panels such as 65 inches and 75 inches showed strong growth momentum, with shipments of approximately 12.5 million and 6 million pieces respectively, a year-on-year increase of 3.1% and 24.5%. Overall, the average size of LCD TV panels worldwide has increased from 46.1 inches in 2022 to 47.9 inches in the first half of 2023. By June this year, the average size of the Chinese television market had exceeded 60 inches.
According to the "2023 First Half China Color TV Market Summary Report" released by Aowei Cloud Network, the sales volume of the Chinese color TV market in the first half of this year was 14.67 million units, with a sales revenue of 48.7 billion yuan. Among them, the retail share of 75 inch large screen TVs increased by 7.1% year-on-year, becoming the size with the fastest growth in share. The report believes that the mindset of Chinese consumers is changing, and their consumption status is shifting from meeting basic needs to meeting quality needs, driving the industry's growth logic from total growth to structural growth.
What are the reasons for the increase in color TV size? Dong Min, Deputy Secretary General of the China Video Industry Association, believes that there are three aspects:
——Strong local supply chain. The core component of a television is the panel. In recent years, the global supply chain for panel production has shifted to China, making it the largest panel production base and sales center. The strong local supply chain has significantly reduced panel costs, creating conditions for the best-selling large-sized color televisions.
——Product structure optimization. With the continuous advancement of display technology, the clarity, contrast, color, brightness and other performance of television have been significantly improved. In order to fully demonstrate these performance advantages, the TV needs to increase its size and resolution to increase picture details and realism. To adapt to market changes, relevant manufacturers are also moving towards higher quality.
——Residential consumption upgrading. With the continuous improvement of residents' income levels, consumers' demand for color TV products has shifted from meeting basic functions to pursuing high quality, high experience, and high added value. Large size color televisions not only meet the requirements of consumers for visual effects, but also provide intelligent remote control, internet surfing, multimedia and other services.
What considerations do consumers have when choosing large-sized color televisions?
Some pursue audiovisual enjoyment. Hangzhou citizen Liu Chao bought an 85 inch Samsung TV in the past two years. "I couldn't help but place an order when I saw that the configuration of this TV was very high, supporting 4K resolution, HDR technology, Dolby sound effects, and so on." Liu Chao said that since having this large screen TV, his quality of life has improved a lot. "Not only can you watch high-definition movies and sports events, but you can also connect the game console with a TV to play some beautifully stunning large-scale games. Many players value the game's graphics and sound effects the most, and high-quality color screens can immerse players in the game," Liu Chao said.
Some pay attention to the effectiveness of use. Wang Hanqing, an elderly person living in Urumqi, said that he bought a 65 inch smart color TV this year to replace the old 32 inch TV. "The old TV has been in use for over a decade, with blurry visuals, low sound, and frequent malfunctions. I am getting older and my eyes are not very good, making it difficult to watch TV with small screens. The large screen of the new color TV allows me to see more clearly, and intelligent voice control is also very convenient, so I don't have to always look for a remote control," said Wang Hanqing.
Of course, there are also consumers who are not fond of large-sized color televisions. In their view, tablets and computers are sufficient to meet the demand.
Ms. Liao, who works as an accountant in Beijing, said that her TV set broke down three years ago and has not been replaced. "My work pace is usually fast, and I usually watch short videos or listen to music on my tablet or computer. Compared to a TV, the advantage of watching videos on a tablet or computer is that it is not limited in location and time, and can also balance work, study, and shopping, making it more flexible to use.".
Industry insiders believe that the competition in the color TV market has now turned into a "big screen competition", and large-sized color TVs are becoming an important development direction in the television industry. "Overall, the television industry is still developing in the direction of structural upgrading. With the improvement of living standards and the diversification of audio-visual consumption needs of Chinese residents, the television industry is expected to enhance home functions, improve scene adaptability, enhance human-computer interaction experience, and deeply integrate into residents' daily lives through flexible combination of size and technology." Dong Min said.
