The American translator who fled Afghanistan was shot dead in Washington at the age of only 31
On July 8th local time, hundreds of people in the United States gathered together. Some of these people are wearing traditional Afghan clothing, while others are wearing dark suits. They are all here to attend the funeral of Nasrallah Ahmed Al.
According to the Washington Post on July 8th, the deceased was 31 years old and from Afghanistan, serving as a translator for the US special forces. After the Taliban seized central power in Afghanistan in August 2021, Nasrallah fled Afghanistan and came to the United States. On July 3rd, he died in a shooting incident in the US capital Washington.
The funeral was conducted in Persian, one of the main languages in Afghanistan, so most American soldiers participating in the funeral did not understand the language used in the ceremony. A retired lieutenant colonel from the US Army Special Forces, Matthew Butler, paid his respects at the funeral and said that he loved Nasuladura like a "loving son" and apologized for her passing.
According to a report by Al Jazeera on July 7th, after the Taliban took over the Afghan government in 2021, thousands of Afghans who had worked for the US military fled to the United States. They had certain visa privileges due to their background in working for the US military.
Nasuradullah served as a translator for the US military for over ten years. After Atta took over the regime, he attempted to stay and take care of his friends and family. As the northern city where he hid was also taken over by Atta, he fled to the United Arab Emirates and then went to the United States.
Nasrallah's friend Rasim Amini told Al Jazeera that Nasrallah has made many plans for his life after immigrating to the United States. Nasuladura hopes to live, earn money, and complete her studies safely in the United States with her wife and four children aged 13, 11, 8, and 15 months, respectively. Especially for her 13-year-old daughter, she can obtain the right to education in the United States.
Contrary to expectations, Nasuladura was shot and killed in the car at midnight on July 3rd. Before his death, he was driving a car for the shared car company Lyft. Before her death, Nasrallah had already been concerned about community crime in the United States and had moved for it.
According to a video recording from a family near Capitol Hill, gunshots rang out near the car where Nasuladura died, and four young people ran through an alley thereafter. On July 8th, the police stated that they did not have any further details regarding the death of Nasrallah, and the case is still under investigation.
According to statistics from the US State Department, 97000 Afghans have been resettled in the United States from September 2021 to June this year. Among these people, thousands have come to the United States on "special immigration visas", which means they receive more education, speak English, and can find jobs, but for them, moving to the United States is still "starting from scratch".
The Afghan community in the United States is already conducting a fundraising campaign for the families of Nasrallah. Community leaders say that this incident will have a lasting impact on the community.
