The 123 meter behemoth was successfully transported by a multi-party collaborative flatbed truck with blades
CCTV News: This morning, China's 123 meter ultra long offshore wind turbine blades with 100% independent intellectual property rights started land transportation work in Lianyungang, Jiangsu. At 9am, representing the latest technological level of wind power equipment in China, the large blade, from the factory to the port, has a land transportation journey of about 30 kilometers, taking about 3 to 4 hours. Vehicles transporting the large blade also need to turn a 90 degree right angle bend. The transportation of such a large volume of equipment is a complex process, and what are the technical difficulties involved? Take a look at the report that the reporter sent back from the scene this morning.
CCTV reporter Mao Jun: This is the intersection of Dapu Road and National Highway 228 in Lianyungang City. It is now 10:30 am. A group of three 123 meter offshore wind turbine blades that were transferred today have arrived here. Now the first blade is preparing to pass through the 90 degree bend next to me, which is particularly heavy, long, and cannot be bumped. It is a difficult problem for a 123 meter long blade to bend.

It can be seen that the 123 meter blades are tightly fixed on a 65 meter long flatbed truck, with over 50 meters suspended and the width of the vehicle on both sides is nearly 6 meters. The blades have two fixed positions in total. The first is at the root of the blade, which is close to the driver's cab. The other is at the rear of the flatbed truck, which is fixed to a dedicated blue steel frame base and then fixed to the flatbed truck through iron chains.
In order to solve the problem of difficult turning with excessively long blades, this car has a special design. You see, the first car that is currently turning has three sets of tires: one set for the front tractor, one set for the middle of the flatbed truck, and one set for the rear. The total number of tires on the car exceeds 60. This is because our blade and base exceed 63 tons, which is particularly heavy. More importantly, all the tires you see can be turned, and multiple people need to cooperate when the vehicle turns. We can see that the staff is holding a wireless operating handle, which uses buttons to make each tire of the vehicle turn as needed.

Liu Ze, the person in charge of transporting 123 meter offshore wind turbine blades: Five people need to operate simultaneously when turning. One driver and two steering operators are required to operate the front, middle, and rear sets of tire steering on the vehicle, as well as one observer and one commander. We use walkie talkies to speak and collaborate. For large blades like this, which are 123 meters long, we should try to control the turning radius above 71 meters. Normally, when a car turns for 10 seconds, we need 10 minutes.
CCTV reporter Mao Jun: In order to ensure the smooth transportation of the blades, all parties have done a lot of work. For example, the transportation route requires a road width of 8 meters and a height limit of 6.5 meters or more. Some obstacles along the way will also be removed in advance, and drivers have many years of experience in transporting wind turbine blades. And there are specialized escort vehicles in front and behind the truck. There are many social vehicles on National Highway 228, and there are also traffic police departments coordinating and directing traffic on key sections. The 30 kilometer journey takes three to four hours in front, back, and forth. On the afternoon of the 14th, the blades will be transported to the port terminal of Lianyungang; The lifting on board the ship will take place on the 15th, and the sea voyage will take about 5 days; Arrived at the offshore wind farm in Pingtan, Fujian on the 20th for subsequent assembly of the entire machine.
