Chen Ke Science and Technology Daily reporter He Liang
The 31st Chengdu Summer Universiade will open tomorrow, featuring the "Rongbao" robot, "smart mosquito trap machine", and unmanned buses for the Universiade. In this highly anticipated event, not only will athletes showcase their exceptional competitive skills, but the scientific and technological products that support the competition will also showcase their "eighteen skills", providing thoughtful services in event support, life services, safety and fire protection, and providing intelligent empowerment for the Universiade.
Smart venues deliver thoughtful services to the side
A big head, flickering big eyes, and a round body... This is the world's first service robot with emergency functions - the Dayun "Rongbao" robot.
The Rongbao robot is known as the "special server" of this year's Universiade, and its prototype is China's "national treasure" - the giant panda. This robot not only has a cute appearance, but also holds multiple positions such as emergency response, inquiry, translation, and leadership. It can be said to have a dual responsibility of appearance and strength.
The person in charge of the "Rongbao" robot product introduced that in order to ensure that the "Rongbao" robot can complete guidance and navigation tasks with high quality, the staff has built-in high-resolution maps for it. At the same time, it has also mastered highly flexible obstacle avoidance skills and highly complex obstacle detection skills, which can complete difficult calculation tasks such as mapping, global path planning, local path planning, and data fusion. During the current Universiade, the "Rongbao" robot can also provide indoor navigation for visitors and contestants from afar, helping people quickly reach their designated locations.
At the same time, the "Rongbao" robot is the world's first service robot with emergency functions, capable of delivering emergency kits, automatic external defibrillators and other medical emergency tools at the center of the venue.
"When an emergency situation occurs, personnel can directly call the 'Rongbao' robot on their mobile phones at the incident site. The robot will deliver the automatic external defibrillator to the incident site at a speed of 1.2 meters per second. After arriving at the corresponding location, the 'Rongbao' robot will automatically play a video of the use of the automatic external defibrillator to help surrounding personnel quickly and correctly use the device. In addition, the 'Rongbao' robot has a built-in camera, which allows on-site personnel to remotely connect with medical experts, who will guide on-site personnel in first aid." The person in charge of the 'Rongbao' robot product said.
In addition, the "Rongbao" robot also has Internet remote call service, information broadcast and other functions.
During the current Universiade, in addition to the "Rongbao" robot, there are also venue mini programs that can provide precise indoor services for spectators.
At the basketball venue of this year's Universiade - Fenghuangshan Sports Park, spectators or guests only need to enter the mini program and complete authorization to have a professional indoor navigation system. It can not only provide users with precise positioning and navigation services, but also achieve one click "safe rescue".
When unexpected situations occur, the audience can use this mini program to seek help from the staff, and the mini program will provide precise positioning to the staff. At the same time, this unexpected situation information will also be transmitted to the comprehensive management platform of the competition, which will notify other staff in the surrounding area to provide timely assistance, thereby improving the real-time comprehensive control ability of the competition and the real-time handling ability of emergency situations.
Recently, Chengdu has issued consecutive orange high-temperature warnings. On the day of the interview, the outdoor temperature of the multifunctional gymnasium in Chengdu Dong'an Lake Sports Park, one of the venues for this year's Universiade, exceeded 36 degrees Celsius. However, as soon as the reporter walked into the gymnasium, he felt a chill. Even more surprising is that the air conditioning is not turned on in this venue.
Why can low temperatures be achieved without turning on the air conditioning?
This is related to the geographical location, orientation, and insulation materials of the exterior walls of the venue.
"When there are fewer people, the venue does not need to turn on air conditioning. Only when there are more people do we need it. All the stands in the venue, including the central area, are equipped with temperature sensors, which can analyze the overall data at any time." The person in charge of Dong'an Lake Sports Park explained that gymnastics competitions require a constant room temperature between 23 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius, and at this time, temperature sensors play a crucial role.
In the ice hockey basketball hall of Fenghuangshan Sports Park, the temperature is also comfortable. The mystery lies in the black circular pipes above the center of the stadium, which are air conditioning vents located at an altitude of 35 meters, but the wind can blow up to an area 1.5 meters above the ground. When the wind reaches a height of 1.5 meters above the ground, the wind speed in the entire area is controlled at 0.25 meters per second, and the audience will not feel strong wind and comfortable. In such a venue, even badminton and table tennis matches will not be affected by the wind.
Under the seats of the ice basketball court in Fenghuangshan Sports Park, there is an air conditioning vent located at regular intervals, which is very concealed. The person in charge of the Phoenix Mountain Sports Park Ice Basket Gymnasium introduced that the concealed air vents scattered under the seats have improved the comfort of the audience watching the game.
The Jianyang Cultural and Sports Center is the competition venue for diving, judo and other events at this year's Universiade. In the emergency passage and on the ground here, indicator lights are installed. In case of an emergency, the indicator lights will light up and flash continuously.
"This is the optimal evacuation route automatically generated by the system." The relevant person in charge of Jianyang Culture and Sports Center introduced that this route was automatically generated by the "Fire Brain" based on different alarm points and "Command" 2690 sets of emergency lighting systems. If an emergency occurs, simply follow the direction of the indicator light and the audience can quickly reach a safe zone.
"Eight Double Insurances" Ensure Network Stability
At Dong'an Lake Sports Park in Chengdu, viewers only need to click on the "Da Yun Tong" app, and the event schedule, results, and information will pop up immediately. "We provide comprehensive network security throughout the entire process to provide a secure and reliable communication network for the successful hosting of this year's Universiade," said the person in charge.
According to calculations, the number of attendees at the opening ceremony of this year's Universiade may exceed 100000, with nearly 20000 permanent residents in the Universiade Village. Due to personnel density, the demand for wireless networks has increased. To meet the communication needs of this year's Universiade, relevant staff have created an ultra dense and flexible 4/5G public network, ensuring stable and smooth communication and network connectivity between the opening and closing ceremonies and the Universiade Village.
Network stability requires building strong security barriers. The relevant communication security departments have also constructed the "eight dual insurances" for network use from multiple perspectives such as network architecture, business security, and system backup through means such as dual data centers and dual routing, so that people can achieve no network drops or disconnections during the current Universiade.
"We have completed the network deployment within the venue in advance, and recently conducted wireless network testing. Through network capacity testing and equipment security checks, we have allowed everyone to enjoy a 'smooth' Universiade," said the staff participating in the network testing for this year's Universiade.
"We will provide live streaming and on-demand services for the current Universiade." According to the person in charge of China Mobile Communications Group Sichuan Co., Ltd., the communication security department will also combine innovative technologies such as virtual reality live streaming to provide high-definition large screen viewing services with "full event coverage, strong commentary, and high technology", achieving full event and all-weather live streaming, and creating an immersive viewing experience for the audience.
Using environmentally friendly biomimetic technology to prevent and control vector borne organisms
There are a total of 49 venues in this Universiade, of which 13 are newly built and 36 are renovated from existing venues. After the construction of the new venue, its vector density is not high. However, with the entry of personnel in the later stage, vector borne organisms such as mosquitoes and flies may also appear in the venues, which poses a challenge to the prevention and control of vector borne organisms in the Universiade.
In order to ensure that the density of vector organisms such as mice, mosquitoes, flies, and cockroaches meets the prescribed standards during the hosting of this Universiade, and to ensure that participants and spectators are not affected by vector organisms and other harmful organisms, the organizers of the event have carried out environmental renovations and even dispatched a "cutting-edge" mosquito prevention and control device - the "Smart Mosquito Trapping Machine".
"The R&D personnel use environmentally friendly and biomimetic technology to simulate the human breathing process of the 'Smart Mosquito Trap Machine'. By collecting carbon dioxide in the air, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the trap machine reaches the level of the human body, causing mosquitoes to mistakenly believe that humans are breathing and then fall into the trap, achieving the goal of healthy and efficient mosquito control. The person in charge of the 'Smart Mosquito Trap Machine' product stated that the entire mosquito control process will not produce any chemical pollution, optical pollution, or noise pollution.".
The Qingshuihe Campus Gymnasium of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China will host the basketball competition of this year's Universiade. In this venue, staff have specifically activated the intelligent monitoring system for vector borne organisms, which can quickly and timely grasp the occurrence of harmful organisms and reduce the risk of missed reporting caused by human monitoring.
Intelligent devices assist in food preparation and waste disposal
At the Universiade restaurant, the smart snack machine works in an orderly manner, and in less than 2 minutes, a steaming bowl of three fresh rice noodles is ready.
The product manager of the intelligent snack machine introduced that this intelligent snack machine has functions such as fully automatic order taking, cooking, serving, and calling, and can "stay on duty" 24 hours a day. At the same time, it can also intelligently analyze consumption situations, remind staff to supplement cooking materials in a timely manner, and complete automatic cleaning, disinfection, and packaging procedures.
In addition, kitchen waste has also found a new destination. This year's Universiade aims to address kitchen waste through harmless treatment and on-site distribution.
This year's Universiade has set up a distributed processing plant for kitchen waste, covering an area of only 280 square meters. It can process 10 tons of kitchen waste on-site and harmless daily. During the current Universiade, this place has become the main battlefield for handling kitchen waste generated by personnel dining.
Will on-site disposal of kitchen waste produce a foul odor? The reporter could hardly smell any odor near the kitchen waste distributed processing plant. So, how does this small building facility achieve on-site harmless treatment of a large amount of kitchen waste without emitting any odor?
Safe, concise, and intelligent system operation is one of the important "magic weapons" for achieving efficient on-site treatment of kitchen waste. In the process of processing kitchen waste, it can achieve automatic control, data transmission and storage, and process monitoring through an electrical control system. At the same time, the relevant equipment operates in a closed manner without any odor, eliminating the possibility of human contact with waste and ensuring the health and safety of the audience.
Autonomous driving contributes to racing traffic
In the open cab of the train, there is neither a complex dashboard nor a traditional train driver. Several passengers peek curiously through the glass, and the subway tunnel with a halo of light cuts past them like a time and space corridor, leaving one amazed. This is a scene on the running Chengdu Metro Line 9 train.
During the current Universiade, public transportation represented by the subway will become the most important guarantee for citizens to travel. According to calculations, the peak daily passenger flow of trains on Chengdu Metro Line 9 during the race is expected to increase by 39% compared to usual, reaching around 470000 people, and may experience its largest passenger flow since its opening at the end of 2020.
The first phase of Chengdu Metro Line 9 has a total length of 22.18 kilometers and consists of 13 stations. It adopts the highest international level of fully automatic operation system, which can achieve automatic wake-up, automatic departure, automatic operation, automatic washing, automatic return to storage, and automatic sleep. It is the first fully automatic rail transit line in central and western China.
"Although it operates fully automatically, safety is also guaranteed," the person in charge of the dispatch and command center of Chengdu Metro Operation Co., Ltd. told reporters. From the appearance of the train body of Chengdu Metro Line 9, it is not much different from other lines, but in reality, "black technology" runs through the entire line, comprehensively ensuring the safe travel of passengers.
There are obstacle and derailment detection devices installed on the train. In the absence of crew members, when the train detects obstacles on the track or encounters the danger of derailment, it will automatically trigger emergency braking to ensure the maximum safety of vehicle operation and passengers. In addition, 6000 monitoring points transmit real-time data from train subsystems to the ground control center in order to grasp the vehicle status in real time and improve the efficiency of mainline operation.
In addition to rail transit, road transportation will also contribute to the hosting of this Universiade.
In the Dayun Village located on the campus of Chengdu University, two uniquely shaped and exquisitely designed minibuses attract the attention of passersby.
The overall color of the minibus is bright yellow, with the emblem of this year's Universiade painted on its body. After more than 10 people boarded the bus, the doors slowly closed. After the safety officer lightly touches the destination "Traffic Support Service Center" on the screen, the vehicle starts smoothly.
I saw the safety officer placing his hands on his knees, while the steering wheel in front of him constantly rotated and adjusted according to the changing road conditions. The speed also varied depending on the actual situation, and in no time, a journey full of technology in autonomous driving ended smoothly.
"During the current Universiade, the world's first mass-produced bus equipped with a 'vehicle road cloud integration' system will be put into use, and we will provide passengers with on-demand autonomous driving experience services. According to the relevant staff of this Universiade, based on the calculation of each vehicle carrying about 10 people, it is expected that the bus will serve tens of thousands of people throughout the entire race period.".
It is understood that the unmanned buses for this year's Universiade are divided into two models, both equipped with the automotive grade mushroom car brain independently developed by the Mushroom Car Federation. They are equipped with 8 solid-state LiDARs and various types of sensors as standard, with a perception range of 200 meters, and can achieve 360 degree blind spots. The response time is 0.1 seconds, which is three times faster than experienced human drivers. They can safely and efficiently handle complex traffic conditions with a large number of vehicles and people during the Universiade, ensuring the safe and smooth operation of unmanned buses during the event, and bringing a highly technological and intelligent travel experience to audiences from all over the world.
