Ko Wen je, the chairman of the People's Party who announced his candidacy for the 2024 Taiwan leadership election earlier, has repeatedly made inappropriate remarks recently. After being criticized for speaking improperly on issues such as the Diaoyu Islands and Japan's discharge of nuclear wastewater, he also stated that if elected, he would prioritize the development of the internet army and paralyze the mainland's high-speed rail, ATM and other systems, once again sparking controversy on the island.
According to multiple Taiwanese media reports such as ETtoday News Cloud, Ko Wen je stated during his attendance at the forum on the afternoon of June 11th that if he were to become a leader in Taiwan, the internet army would be the top priority. Ke said that he wants to choose one day every year to pick a question in the future, such as disabling their high-speed rail system this year and disabling all ATMs next year. "Tell them 'you need to be careful', I have the ability to paralyze you, don't move around, if you really move, I will mess with you," Yun Yun said.
Regarding Ko Wen je's remarks, some netizens on the island have bluntly stated, "The paralysis of high-speed trains and ATMs, these are all livelihood projects. Are you crazy?" "You overestimate your own abilities and don't know the limits of heaven and earth!" "The more elections you hold, the more you expose his lack of wealth." Taiwanese media have warned that Ko Wen je, in order to compete in the election, "talks to people and ghosts", be careful not to steal chicken and not eat rice!
Taiwanese veteran media personality Huang Chih hsien analyzed that Ko Wen je's attempt to attack mainland China's high-speed rail and ATM systems was a naive and ignorant provocation. He had no idea that few people in mainland China now use ATMs, and even said he would demonstrate once a year. Huang Zhixian pointed out that this is Ko Wen je's crazy tactics, and he now wants to wipe out the Kuomintang's votes.
According to Global Times, Ko Wen je talked about the Diaoyu Islands issue in an interview with the Japan Broadcasting Association on the 7th, claiming that "Taiwanese fishermen don't want that land, they just need to be able to fish there.".
Previously, Ko Wen je had already sparked controversy over the "nuclear diet" argument. On the 5th, when he was in Japan, he said, "As long as Japanese people can eat, there is no reason why Taiwanese people cannot eat." As a result, in an online vote, up to 90% of Taiwanese people opposed his statement. Netizens have left angry comments criticizing, "Ko reveals his true face, and it's only then that he's green enough to be juicy." "The words and actions of foreign politicians are disrespectful to the health of the people.".
In response to this, Hou Youyi, the mayor of New Taipei who represented the Kuomintang in the 2024 Taiwan leadership election, posted on social media criticizing Ko Wen je for putting the cart before the horse, stating that there is no room for compromise on the Diaoyu Islands issue. Ko Wen je's statement seems to be pleading with Japan to "lend" the waters off the Diaoyu Islands to Taiwanese fishermen for fishing. His remarks are like those who only want children and don't want mothers, which is simply illogical.
