"I left footprints in Daocheng Yading, which is 6000 meters above sea level, and felt the magic city in hot Chongqing. In Xiamen, across the sea from Taiwan, I felt the distance between the two sides is very close." As a "Generation Z" tourism blogger, Liu Bao from Chiayi, Taiwan, recently told the China News Agency reporter that "I hope to use my feet to travel around the great rivers and mountains of the motherland, and use my life to record the beauty of China."
In June 2023, Liu Bao, a "Generation Z" tourism blogger from Taiwan, traveled on the Sangke Grassland in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province.
In 2017, Liu Bao, who was only 19 years old at the time, came to mainland China to study, and Chongqing was his first stop. His first impression here was that it was "spicy", and he felt that the air was filled with a spicy taste. "I still remember that when I first came here, I ordered a tofu pudding rice. I thought it was sweet tofu pudding like Taiwan, but it was also hot when I served it." Liu Bao said that not only the food, but also the people in Chongqing were "hot". The straightforward and hot nature of the local people made him make many friends, and he gradually got used to the "hot degree".

Two years ago, Liu Bao, who was not in his studies, shared his experiences and experiences in mainland China on social media and became a part-time travel blogger. During this period, he used his spare time to shoot many popular cities on the mainland, documenting the cultural stories of each city. Gradually, his content on social media became increasingly diverse, accumulating a lot of popularity and attention.
"Becoming an excellent travel blogger is not easy." Liu Bao in the camera looks glamorous, experiencing and sharing local customs and traditions, but when his interest turns into a profession, there are also unknown hardships hidden behind it.
Selecting a destination, shooting videos, creating copywriting, post production dubbing, etc. Each step of video creation requires personal involvement. Liu Bao told reporters that he had filmed 8 scenic spots in one day, and in over two years, he has traveled more than 60000 kilometers in mainland China. "The videos that the audience sees are repeatedly selected, and the content presented on social media is less than one tenth of the shooting material. Each shot is also the best choice after multiple shots."
In the field of self media, new creators emerge every day, with fast updates and almost every blogger experiencing the anxiety brought by traffic. Liu Bao admitted that he once thought of giving up on becoming a travel blogger. "For me, giving up is harder than persevering. No matter how I end up, I want more Taiwanese compatriots to see the beautiful mountains, waters, and scenery of the mainland."
In Taiwan, many people's understanding of the mainland is still limited to cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, with no knowledge of other cities. "I want to become the 'eyes' of Taiwanese compatriots to understand the mainland, and use the lens to spread the real mainland to the world. This is also the original intention of my creation." Liu Bao said that his videos can not only witness the development of mainland cities, but also break the prejudices of some Taiwanese compatriots, driving them to have a better understanding of the mainland.

In May 2021, Taiwan's "Generation Z" tourism blogger Liu Bao took a photo with friends in Yading, Daocheng.
As the number of "fans" gradually increases, Taiwanese compatriots often come to him to inquire about the situation in mainland China: what materials need to be prepared for school, how much money needs to be brought for tourism, and what kind of development opportunities are needed. As long as there is time, Liu Bao will spare no effort to answer questions and clarify doubts for his fans. "I replied to ten or even a hundred people, 'As long as one of them comes to the mainland, I feel like I have created value.'"
Nowadays, with the increasing number of popular tourist attractions in China and the increasingly homogenized videos of travel bloggers, Liu Bao is also trying to break down barriers and experience the story of rural development in mainland China in a "tourism+rural" way, allowing Taiwanese compatriots to witness the development of mainland China without leaving their homes. He believes that blindly catering to the audience's content is not advisable. Only by creating distinctive content and producing high-quality works can there be a long-term opportunity. "The camera is like a pair of eyes, allowing Taiwanese compatriots to 'see the mainland through my eyes' and contribute slightly to cross-strait exchanges."
