Taiwan Affairs Office: Young people in Taiwan are falling victim to the Democratic Progressive Party's dependence on pleasing the United States. The United States | Taiwan | authorities
On June 28th, Xinhua News Agency reported on the recent military collusion between the United States and Taiwan. Spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhu Fenglian, responded to inquiries at a regular press conference on June 28th, stating that with the cooperation of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities who have betrayed Taiwan's future and the interests of the people without a bottom line, the United States is increasing its armed forces in Taiwan, accelerating the transformation of Taiwan into a powder depot, and young people in Taiwan are becoming victims of the DPP's dependence on pleasing the United States.
Zhu Fenglian said that the relevant trends once again show that the anti-China forces and the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces in the United States are the initiators and behind the scenes of the current tension in the Taiwan Strait. Some U.S. politicians say they want peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, but in fact they are accelerating the arming of Taiwan and exacerbating tensions in the Taiwan Strait. The DPP authorities claimed that "war is not an option for Taiwan," but they have stepped up their efforts to rely on external forces to "seek independence by force". I believe the people of Taiwan can see clearly who is raising tensions in the Taiwan Strait and who is selling war fears.
"Some media have sorted out some recent military links between the United States and Taiwan, which can help everyone see more clearly." Zhu Fenglian showed relevant pictures and said that in July 2022, US politicians proposed that "Taiwan's military service should be extended for at least one year before it can be effective". In December 2022, the Democratic Party authorities announced that they would extend the service period of conscripts to one year. In December 2022, the United States passed the "National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023" and proposed to "ensure Taiwan's national defense mobilization". In February 2023, the Democratic Party authorities revised the "Comprehensive Defense Mobilization Preparation Law"; in December 2022, the United States stated that it intends to establish a "regional emergency reserve" for Taiwan. In March 2023, the Democratic Party authorities confirmed that they are negotiating with the United States to transfer the East Asian arms depot to Taiwan.
"Are these coincidences? Obviously not," said Zhu Fenglian.
We urge the United States to cease military contacts and arms sales between Taiwan and the United States, and to cease acts of "destroying Taiwan" and "harming Taiwan". Warn the DPP authorities to abandon their illusions of relying on external forces to seek independence through military means and stop the activities of "selling Taiwan" and "harming Taiwan".
The so-called "3+1 plan" clearly harms the rights and interests of Taiwanese university students. Studying in a university for three years is equivalent to only receiving vocational education, which is harmful to Taiwanese students and the future economic and social development of Taiwan without any benefits. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have colluded with external forces to incite "independence" and disrupt the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, causing tension and turbulence in the Taiwan Strait. This is the cause and root cause of the so-called extension of military service and the "3+1 plan", and the biggest threat to Taiwan's stability and the well-being of the people.
The DPP authorities did not comment on this.
These commitments are clearly reflected in the three joint communiqu é s between China and the United States.
"I would like to tell the DPP authorities that 'Taiwan independence' is a dead end. If you collude with external forces to provoke 'independence' and weave lies about the so-called 'support of the international community, 'you will not be able to deceive the people of the island." She said.
