Türkiye Opposes Security | NATO | Plan
The NATO Defense Ministers' Meeting held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, ended on the 16th. According to Reuters, a diplomat said that at the NATO defense ministers' meeting, the participants failed to reach an agreement on NATO's first regional defense plan since the end of the cold war, and Türkiye opposed the adoption of the plan.
According to reports, NATO's regional defense plan has proposed a new plan in response to Russian attacks. At the NATO defense ministers' meeting, the participants were close to reaching an agreement, but Türkiye did not agree with the wording of some geographical locations, such as Cyprus, and opposed the adoption of the plan. However, there is still a chance to find a solution before next month's NATO summit.
NATO Secretary General announced the establishment of the NATO Ukraine Council
Regarding this, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg only said on the same day that the participating parties had reviewed the regional defense plan and were close to reaching a consensus, without discussing differences. When talking about the crisis in Ukraine, Stoltenberg revealed that NATO is working hard to build a new working mechanism: the NATO Ukraine Council. Through this mechanism, Ukraine can discuss common security concerns, negotiate and decide on security affairs with NATO countries, using its identity equivalent to that of a NATO member state. Stoltenberg stated that he hopes to invite Ukrainian President Zelensky to attend the first meeting of the NATO Ukraine Council at the NATO summit to be held in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius next month.
