On June 27 local time, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Bilstrom said that Sweden had met Türkiye's requirements for Sweden's accession to NATO.
According to CNN on the 27th, Bilstrom said at a press conference held with the British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley that, with the introduction of a new terrorist law in Sweden, Sweden has met the final requirements for joining NATO agreed in the trilateral plan of Finland, Sweden and Türkiye.
Bilstrom said, "The new laws that have recently come into effect in Sweden make it illegal to promote, strengthen or support terrorist organizations in any way. Therefore, we are fulfilling the final part of the agreement."
Cleverley reiterated Britain's support for Sweden's accession to NATO, "My position is very clear that Sweden must and should join NATO, and should do so as soon as possible."
"We will continue to push you to quickly complete the accession process." Cleverley stressed that "Sweden becomes a member of NATO as soon as possible" is in Türkiye's interests.
