In this rice field in Xiangdong District, 250 kilometers away from Nanchang, "Xinye You 6" rice is being planted for the first time. During the farming season, there were no waiting people. Therefore, in 2012, Academician Yan Long'an, a veteran party member who has been engaged in rice research for over 50 years, led the establishment of the Jiangxi Province Super Rice Center. For over a decade, he led a young research team to aim at the forefront of scientific breeding and continuously introduce innovative achievements. Nowadays, at the age of 86, he still pays close attention to and participates in research and development, becoming the "star" in the hearts of everyone in major projects.

Jiangxi has a complex terrain, with over 70% of water scarce fields unable to grow rice. The Super Rice Center Party Branch has launched a special project to tackle this issue. Despite repeated failures and setbacks, the project leader Nie Yuanyuan has been tirelessly working between the laboratory and the field for seven years to cultivate high-quality water-saving and drought resistant rice varieties.

Especially as party members and researchers, we need to overcome difficulties and apply our research results to the land, helping the people increase production and income.

Yan Guo'an, a grain grower in Qianjin Village, Yuanzhou District, Yichun City, Jiangxi Province: This land used to be wasteland, and only a little sweet potato could be grown. I heard about dry rice, so I transferred over 100 acres of this soil and planted all of it with dry rice. It looks good, and the harvest is definitely not wrong.

The cultivation of high-temperature resistant varieties has always been a challenge in scientific research. Last year, the local area experienced a once in 50 year high temperature weather. In order to obtain the latest data on cloned rice heat resistant functional genes, researchers observed and collected data for several consecutive days at temperatures close to 40 ℃. At the highest temperature, two members of the research team fainted from heatstroke on the ground.

Cao Zhibin, Deputy Researcher of Jiangxi Super Rice Research and Development Center: To obtain effective data on rice's high temperature tolerance, it is necessary to investigate the flowering situation during the highest temperature of the day. We have endured the hardships, but high-temperature resistant rice varieties have also been bred, and 1 million acres have been promoted this year.

Due to the fact that hybrid rice only has two types with a single cytoplasmic source, once the genes are identified by pests and diseases, it will cause a large-scale reduction in yield. Over the years, researchers have cloned genes from thousands of wild rice varieties and conducted experiments repeatedly, finally achieving breakthrough progress. This new type of three line hybrid rice will be fully promoted after successful trial planting this year.

Xie Hongwei, a researcher at the Jiangxi Province Super Rice Research and Development Center: Once these two hybrid rice varieties are attacked by pests and diseases, we still have this type of hybrid rice that can withstand them, adding a safety valve to national food production security.

Developing useful genes and conducting practical scientific research.

In the past five years, the Jiangxi Super Rice Center has approved over 40 rice varieties, covering 10.3% of the rice planting areas in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Among them, the "Wild Fragrance Youhang 1573" and other series have been promoted in China, covering an area of over 45 million mu, with an average increase of 20 kilograms per mu, making important contributions to the revitalization of China's rice seed industry and food security.
