On June 16th local time, the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, together with representatives from government departments involved in tourism and security, such as the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the National Tourism Administration of Thailand, the Ministry of the Interior of Thailand, and the Immigration Bureau of Thailand, discussed the screening and handling methods for Chinese tourists entering Thailand. They unanimously reached the following consensus.
The Consular Department of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs will strengthen consultations with embassies and consulates in China on unified visa approval standards to ensure that visa approval is completed within 7 working days, unless additional materials are required. In addition, the Consular Office has developed a series of convenient visa approval policies, such as providing one-stop visa services for teams planning to film in Thailand.
All departments unanimously agree that the electronic visa system has the advantages of standardization and multi-dimensional screening of Chinese tourists. The second stage will optimize the system by adding multilingual services including Chinese, and strengthening data sharing with relevant departments such as the National Intelligence Agency of Thailand and the Thailand Drug Control Commission to make it faster and safer.
At present, the first phase of the electronic visa system is ready, capable of processing 5 million visa applications annually. The second phase is planned to be launched in 2024, and the system will be able to process 15 million visa applications.
