Special Envoy of the Western Community: The Niger Military Says that Pazum's Return to Power Will Not Work
On August 27th local time, former Nigerian President Abdul Salami Abubakar, who served as the special envoy of the Economic Community of West African States, disclosed some of his previous talks with the country's coup military leader Chiani during his visit to Niger.
Abdul Salami Abubakar stated that Niger's coup soldiers have rejected Bazum's call to re serve as the country's president, and the Niger military believes that Western Community should focus more on formulating decisions and policies that are in line with the interests of the Niger people.
Chiani demanded that the Western Community focus on improving the lives of the Nigerian people, stating that "both sides are free to discuss everything else, but should avoid allowing Bazum to regain power, as this is not feasible.".
On August 19th local time, a delegation from the West Community led by former Nigerian President Abdul Salami Abubakar and Chairman of the West Community Council, Omar Aliu Toure, visited Niger. They held talks with Niger's coup military leader Chiani and briefly met with the still detained Nigerian President Bazum.
