South Korea establishes a drone combat command!
According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean military established a drone combat command on the afternoon of September 1st. The headquarters is directly under the Ministry of National Defense, and the unmanned aerial vehicle combat force is the first collaborative combat force of the South Korean army composed of land, sea, air force, and marine corps.
The South Korean Drone Warfare Command is commanded and supervised by the Chairman of the Joint Staff Headquarters. Drone combat units are not only capable of carrying out enemy surveillance and reconnaissance missions, but can also attack major enemy facilities.
Drone units will have both reconnaissance and strike capabilities
The headquarters will contain, defend, and attack various asymmetric threats such as enemy drones, nuclear weapons, and weapons of mass destruction in emergency situations, and carry out varying levels of surveillance, reconnaissance, psychological warfare, and electronic warfare tasks. The South Korean military will quickly deploy reconnaissance, attack, stealth, and adversarial types of drones to the headquarters. The headquarters is also responsible for network construction, airspace control, collaborative military guideline development, aviation safety, maintenance, and other work, promoting the accelerated service and deployment of drones.
President South Korea demands that drone forces have the capability to contain North Korean drones
On the same day, South Korean President Yoon Seok yeol made a request to the Drone Warfare Command, stating that the drone forces should be able to contain North Korean drone provocations and various asymmetric threats, and have the ability and posture to strongly counter enemy provocations.
On June 20th this year, South Korean Prime Minister Han Deju presided over a state meeting and approved the plan for the South Korean military to establish a drone combat command to strengthen its combat capabilities against North Korea. Han Dezhu said that at the end of last year, South Korea discovered the entry of North Korean drones, and after creating a drone combat command, it can "effectively and overwhelmingly" respond to North Korea.
