On July 25th, South African President Ramaphosa had a phone conversation with Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, who was attending the BRICS High Representative Conference on Security Affairs in Johannesburg.
Wang Yi stated that this year is the "South African Year" of the BRICS, and China supports South Africa in hosting the BRICS Leaders' Meeting next month. The High Representative Meeting on Security Affairs has also made political preparations for this. We believe that under the leadership of President Ramaphosa, South Africa can achieve success in four aspects: firstly, to do a good job in preparing for the summit, ensure the successful outcome of the meeting, and inject new impetus into BRICS cooperation; Secondly, actively coordinate the positions of all parties, reach consensus on the development and growth of the BRICS, and open up new prospects for the BRICS mechanism; The third is to plan important high-level exchanges between China and South Africa, and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and South Africa to a new height; The fourth is to carry out high-level dialogue between China and Africa, strengthen unity and cooperation between China and Africa, and lead the construction of a community with a shared future between China and Africa to make new progress.
Wang Yi emphasized that China and South Africa have a "comrade brother" relationship. No matter how the international situation changes, China will firmly stand with South Africa, support South Africa in accelerating development and revitalization, and support South Africa in playing a greater role on the regional and international stage.
Thank you to China for providing valuable support to South Africa in hosting the BRICS Summit. South Africa is ready to ensure the successful outcome of the upcoming BRICS summit. South Africa also hopes to use this summit as an opportunity to promote greater progress in South China relations and Africa China relations.
During his visit to South Africa, Wang Yi also held talks with South African Foreign Minister Pandor.
