Six cascade power stations on the main stream of the Yangtze River provide strong support for the "West East Power Transmission" with peak supply guarantee
CCTV News: Recently, high temperatures have persisted in many parts of China. To cope with the power shortage caused by high temperatures, the six cascade hydropower stations in the Yangtze River, including Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Sanxia, and Gezhouba, should be fully utilized.
On the 11th and 12th of this month, the peak shaving volume broke historical records for two consecutive days, with the highest peak shaving volume exceeding 32 million kilowatts, effectively alleviating the power shortage situation in East China, Central China and other regions.
Since July, the peak operating units of six cascade power stations have reached 97, with a maximum daily power generation exceeding 900 million kilowatt hours. The peak shaving on the 11th day exceeded 28 million kilowatts, and the peak shaving on the 12th day exceeded 32 million kilowatts, equivalent to the peak shaving capacity of 26 1.2 million kilowatts pumped storage power stations. This has broken the historical record of 26.175 million kilowatts of peak shaving in 2022 for two consecutive days, fully leveraging the role of cascade power stations as the backbone power source for the "West East Power Transmission".

Li Peng, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Three Gorges Cascade Dispatch of Three Gorges Power Group: Strengthen the monitoring of extreme weather conditions in the incoming water and receiving areas of the cascade power stations, analyze the power generation capacity of the power stations and the electricity demand in the receiving areas, dynamically optimize the joint scheduling operation mode of the cascade power stations, improve the utilization rate of water resources, ensure that all should be generated and all can be generated, and make the most of precious water resources while ensuring flood control and safety.
One drop of water generates 6 electricity, making it the world's largest "clean energy corridor"
Six cascade hydropower stations, including Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, and Gezhouba on the main stream of the Yangtze River, constitute the world's largest "clean energy corridor".

On this green energy corridor, six giant power stations have a total installed capacity of 71.695 million kilowatts, with a total of 110 hydroelectric units operating together, achieving six power generation per drop, an average annual power generation of about 300 billion kilowatt hours, saving over 90 million tons of standard coal annually, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 240 million tons. This effectively alleviates the power shortage in central and eastern China, as well as provinces such as Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guangdong, and provides strong support for the "West East Power Transmission".
