"Showcasing the Responsibility of Chinese Enterprises through Practical Actions" Peru | China | Enterprises
"Thanks to the timely help of Chinese enterprises, the Pan American Highway can be kept unblocked, greatly reducing the impact of rainstorm and flood on our lives." When talking about the help of Chinese friends to guard the dam of the Qiankai River, Paula, a citizen of Lima, the capital of Peru, was grateful.
Paula's home is located near the Qiankai River in Lima City. Not long ago, under the influence of tropical cyclones, rainstorm and flood disasters occurred across Peru. The water level of Qiankai River has rapidly risen, some riverbanks have been washed away, and large areas of farmland have been submerged. The surging floods are constantly impacting the roadbeds and bridges of the Pan American Highway, which is highly likely to cause damage to the road and even affect the transportation of Peru's South North Corridor.
In a critical situation, the Peru Qiankai Port project department, a joint venture between China Harbour and China Communications Fourth Navigation Bureau, promptly extended a helping hand. "After receiving a request for assistance from the Lima City Hall, the project department immediately established a rescue team and rushed to the site for exploration." Qiao Ming, deputy manager of the Qiankaigang project, introduced that the rescue team used drone aerial photography to quickly grasp the surrounding conditions, determine the equipment entry route and the river embankment maintenance and reinforcement plan, and then immediately began to dispatch equipment and materials.
For more than 30 hours of continuous struggle, about 90 stone transport vehicles have been mobilized, and more than 1000 cubic meters of large stone throwing and filling construction have been completed. Through meticulous evaluation, calculation, and continuous construction, the rescue team has efficiently and effectively completed the reinforcement task of the 120 meter riverbank, protecting the safety of the roads and crops outside the riverbank, and building a "safety barrier" for local residents.
After the reinforcement of the riverbank was completed, in order to prevent unexpected situations, project team members continued to hold onto the site until the flood receded. Felix, a local employee of the project team, said with deep emotion, "Chinese friends have been in Qiankai for less than two years, and they have already regarded this place as their home." Felix lives in Qiankai community, and his Chinese colleagues' full efforts to protect the embankment have deeply moved him and many local people.
"Chinese companies have built docks for us and actively fulfilled their social responsibilities," said Hilda, the head of the Public Transport Department at the Lima City Hall. "Chinese personnel have demonstrated the responsibility of Chinese companies through practical actions.". During the project construction period, the Chinese team continued to assist in the construction of local infrastructure for people's livelihoods. They successively built road speed bumps and retaining walls for the community, and renovated the local kindergarten.
As the construction site of the project is adjacent to a natural wetland, while completing the construction tasks, the project department actively assists in ecological environment protection in various ways, including setting up animal rescue offices, hiring environmental experts to monitor bird population activities in the wetland, organizing local students and residents to participate in environmental protection practice education, etc. "I have learned a lot of knowledge and contributed to protecting our home through various environmental protection activities organized by my Chinese friends. I feel very proud," said local community worker Gina.
"On the basis of conscientiously completing the construction tasks, the project department will continue to fulfill its social responsibility and make more contributions to improving Peru's infrastructure level, promoting economic and social development, and deepening the friendship between the Chinese and Peruvian people." Qiao Ming said.
