Shot in the head, Ukrainian intelligence officer dies in the office
According to sources within the security agency cited by the Ukrainian State Network on August 28th, Colonel Dmitry Bakayev, Deputy Director of the Special Communications Department of the Ukrainian National Security Agency, was found dead at his job in Kiev and shot in the head.
"The suicide incident occurred on August 25th. Dmitry Bakayev... was found in his office, shot in the head. He committed suicide with a Makarov pistol, which was his work gun," the source said.
In addition, the suicide note left by Bakayev to Vasily Maliuk, the head of the Ukrainian National Security Agency, has also been exposed. Bakayev attributed his death to his superiors, claiming that he had suffered systematic abuse and that his "personality and dignity" had been repeatedly violated.
The source added, "Several officials from the Ukrainian National Security Agency have been questioned regarding the allegations made by Bakayev."
Subsequently, the Ukrainian National Security Agency also confirmed this news and claimed to be investigating the cause of Bakayev's death, but did not call it suicide.
The statement released by the Ukrainian National Security Agency stated that "investigators from the Ukrainian National Police are conducting a criminal investigation into the death of an employee of the National Security Agency. The Ukrainian National Security Agency expresses condolences to the family and friends of the deceased colonel." The agency promises to provide "maximum assistance" to the investigators investigating the case.
