Moscow, August 18th (Xinhua) - The Russian Ministry of Defense stated on August 18th that Russia thwarted Ukraine's attempt to attack Moscow using drones on the same day, and the incident did not cause any casualties.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on social media that around 4am on the 18th, Ukraine attempted to use drones to attack facilities in Moscow City and Moscow Oblast. The drones were destroyed by air defense systems and changed their flight path, crashing onto a non residential building in the center of Moscow. The drone crash did not cause any casualties or trigger a fire.
According to TASS, the incident has had an impact on the operations of Moscow's three airports, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Sheremetevo, with some flights cancelled or delayed. Funukovo Airport has reopened after a brief closure of the airspace.
Earlier that day, Moscow Mayor Sobyanin posted on social media that a drone was shot down by air defense systems while flying to Moscow in the early hours of the day. The wreckage of the drone crashed into the Moscow International Exhibition Center area without causing significant damage to the building. The drone crash did not cause any casualties, and the emergency department took action on site.
