On August 19th, China Daily reported that the proliferation of firearms has been a long-standing "persistent disease" in American society, now affecting children. Shooting has been the leading cause of death for American children since 2020. On the 14th, in Jacksonville County, Florida, a 9-year-old boy was playing with a pistol at home when he injured another 6-year-old boy. The latter died in the hospital despite rescue efforts. On the 15th, in San Antonio, Texas, a teacher discovered a gun in a 3-year-old child's backpack at a local preschool education center. Security personnel immediately notified the police. The non-profit organization "Everytown for Gun Safety" stated that since 2023, there have been at least 240 unintentional child shootings in the United States, resulting in 88 deaths and 160 injuries.
