The Experience of Angel, a PhD Student in the Department of Electronic Engineering
Raise attention
Nine years ago, 16-year-old Angel was selected for the "Leading Plan" and enrolled in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University.
During her undergraduate studies, Angel did not immediately excel in research and training programs or competitions such as the Challenge Cup like others. Instead, she chose to "dive" into the research groups and laboratories of teachers in various fields of the electronics department. "During my undergraduate studies in communication, imaging, artificial intelligence, circuits... I attended the research group meetings of representative teachers from all major directions in the department."
After deep thinking, Angel discovered a blue ocean field that has not yet achieved complete technological breakthroughs: in today's increasingly automated and intelligent society, to make autonomous driving more complete and robots more intelligent, a key problem cannot be solved without visual perception.
Angel and her research team hope to achieve multi machine collaboration through multiple robots or mobile platforms, enabling visual perception to achieve a "1+1>2" effect.

She sees her five years of doctoral studies as a marathon, with the finish line being achieving "multi machine collaborative visual perception" - all of Angel's research topics during her doctoral studies revolve around it.
"Due to the fact that multi machine collaborative visual perception belongs to an interdisciplinary field and the basic theory is relatively scarce, I need to constantly read professional literature and technical blogs from various disciplines, gradually building a theoretical framework." Angel still remembers that when researching indoor positioning problems, she only spent one star "brushing" most of the "head" textbooks in the field of visual SLAM.
Over the past five years, Angel has published a total of 11 papers as the first author in internationally renowned journals and conferences, including 6 SCI journal articles and 5 EI conference articles.
In addition, Angel has also been awarded multiple honors such as the National Scholarship for Doctoral Students and the Tsinghua University Scholarship.
As graduation season approached, Angel, who graduated from the Affiliated High School of Northwestern Polytechnical University in high school, ultimately chose to join Northwestern Polytechnical University as a prospective associate professor at the School of Astronautics.
For the interdisciplinary transition from electronic information to aerospace, Angel looks forward to the infinite possibilities of interdisciplinary collaboration and is prepared for the challenges and difficulties of interdisciplinary collaboration.

"Our country is at the critical stage of intelligent transformation in the aerospace industry. If we want to make up for our shortcomings and catch up, there will definitely be a strong demand in the field of intelligent perception. Teaching at the Aerospace Academy is a great opportunity, and I will strive to promote my research results in suitable application scenarios."
"Young University Professors" Causing Hot Discussions
In fact, in recent years, young scholars have been making continuous efforts, and the "post-90s" and even "post-95s" have been active on the academic stage.
In 2022, Zhang Zhiwei, a doctoral student from Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology born in the 1990s, stayed on as a teacher and was appointed as a specially appointed associate professor upon graduation. During his 5-year master's and doctoral program, he published over 10 SCI papers as the first author.
In 2021, Zhao Hao'an, a doctoral graduate from the School of Chemical Engineering at Northwestern University, stayed on as a teacher. At that time, he held more than 20 domestic and foreign academic journal papers and obtained 5 national invention patents. He has published 10 SCI papers as the first author, including 2 top papers in the first section and 5 top papers in the second section.
In 2020, Hou Taogang, a PhD graduate from Beihang University, was appointed as an associate professor at the School of Electronic Information Engineering by Beijing Jiaotong University as soon as he graduated. During his three years at Zhibo, he published 7 first author papers, and his designed intelligent robot won a total of 11 patents, which were permanently preserved for exhibition by Beihang.

Li Shengman, who graduated with a doctoral degree in June 2020, has published more than 10 high-level SCI papers. Upon graduation, he was appointed as an associate professor and doctoral supervisor by Hunan University.
In 2021, Ren Youqun, Director of the Teacher Work Department of the Ministry of Education, stated, "We encourage universities to promote outstanding young talents beyond the norm, boldly use them, determine the evaluation and assessment cycle for young teachers based on the characteristics of the discipline, encourage bold innovation, and continue research."
Regarding the phenomenon of younger professors in universities, Professor Peng Zhenming from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China once wrote an article on the Science Network blog, stating that younger professors are an inevitable trend for universities to adapt to the times. He believes that providing young people with a platform and opportunities for rapid growth is also an inevitable path for the development of higher education institutions. As for young people, whether they can seize opportunities and promote healthy development under the premature halo of being promoted to a professor depends on the individual.
Heroes are not judged by age
May the "Angels" in their new positions
Keep shining!
