Today, the First Intermediate People's Court of Chongqing publicly announced the first instance verdict on the bribery case of Huang Yi, former member of the Party Group and Vice Chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Huang Yi, who took bribes exceeding 34.95 million yuan, was sentenced to 13 years in prison in the first trial.
On March 24th last year, Huang Yi fell from his horse. According to the public resume, Huang Yi, male, born in August 1958, is of the Jingpo ethnic group and from Ruili, Yunnan. He joined the CPC in January 1981 and started working in September 1975. He has an on-the-job doctoral degree.
Huang Yi has been serving in Yunnan Province for a long time, having served as Deputy Governor of Dehong Prefecture, Deputy Director and Party Member of Yunnan Provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as Director of the Provincial Bureau of Surrounding Trade, and Secretary of the Baoshan Municipal Party Committee in Yunnan Province. Starting from June 2005, Huang Yi served as a member of the Party Group of the Yunnan Provincial Government and the Party Secretary of the Provincial Government Office. He later served as the Secretary General and Party Member of the Yunnan Provincial Government, as well as the Party Secretary of the Provincial Government Office. From November 2006 to December 2016, Huang Yi served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department. Starting from December 2016, he stepped down as a member of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee and only served as the Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee. From January 2017 to January last year, Huang Yi served as Vice Chairman and Party Member of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Huang Yi stepped down as Vice Chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference two months later. According to public resumes, Huang Yi has worked with former Yunnan Provincial Party Secretary Bai Enpei and former Yunnan Provincial Party Secretary Qin Guangrong.

After trial, the court found that from 2001 to 2022, Huang Yi took advantage of his positions as Secretary of the Baoshan Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Secretary General of the Yunnan Provincial People's Government, Standing Committee Member and Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Vice Chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in engineering contracting, project approval, enterprise operation, and other matters. He illegally received property from others, totaling more than RMB 34.95 million.

According to the announcement, from 2013 to 2022, Huang Yi received gifts equivalent to 475000 yuan; Accepting multiple banquets arranged by private entrepreneurs in hotels, company canteens, and other places, and drinking high-end alcoholic beverages; Multiple requests have been made to a private business owner to arrange banquets for them in a private club and drink high-end drinks, all of which will be paid by the private business owner.
