Self proclaimed as "the struggle between dreams and reality", Tang Shangjun gave up on the second supplementary recording of emotions | voluntary | dream
On the morning of July 24th at 9:00 am, the second round of voluntary recruitment for the first batch of undergraduate enrollment in ordinary universities in Guangxi in 2023 was closed. Tang Shangjun, who has participated in the college entrance examination 15 times, filled out three choices in advance, but ultimately did not submit them and gave up this supplementary enrollment.
In recent days, Tang Shangjun has once again been embroiled in a whirlpool of public opinion due to not being admitted to the college entrance examination and voluntarily giving up supplementary enrollment. Unlike the previous high-profile approach, Tang Shangjun, who was in a bad mood, temporarily chose to withdraw from the internet and did not respond much to external doubts.
On the morning of July 24th, Tang Shangjun's junior high school classmate and director of the documentary "High School Ten", He Hanli, posted a video on his personal account stating that for the second supplementary recording, Tang Shangjun had filled out three preferences in advance, but ultimately withdrew the preferences and "did not submit them".
According to the relevant screenshots, Tang Shangjun originally filled out three preferences for this supplementary entry, namely Economics and Tourism Management at Hainan Normal University, Ecology, Cultural Industry Management, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering at Guangxi Normal University, and Applied Chemistry and Geographic Science at Nanning Normal University.
He Hanli was a long-time friend of Tang Shangjun. Previously, faced with doubts about being a internet celebrity and having a business team operating, Tang Shangjun responded by releasing a video stating that he did not have a team and that the video was filmed with the help of He Hanli. When chatting with He Hanli on WeChat, Tang Shangjun said that he had engaged in a fierce ideological struggle and "did not make any supplementary records"; There is still a struggle between dreams and reality, and as for the next steps, I am still very confused. "I'm feeling down and want to be quiet, so I don't want to come out and talk."
Pengpai News noticed that on July 20th, Tang Shangjun gave up his first opportunity to make a supplementary recording. Two days later, he posted a video on his personal social media account with an accompanying text that read, "I'm struggling and confused.".
He Hanli revealed in the aforementioned video that currently, Tang Shangjun is feeling very low and does not want to speak out to the public or post any updates on her social media account. Tang Shangjun entrusted him to convey his gratitude to the outside world for their attention and assistance.
"We don't know if his decision is right or wrong, because everyone has their own choices, and everyone has their own circumstances. As a good friend, I respect his choices, and I also wish him a beautiful future," He Hanli said.
According to a previous report by Pengpai News, in 2016, the 30 minute documentary "High School Ten", which recorded Tang Shangjun's participation in the college entrance examination for many consecutive years, was broadcasted on Guangxi TV, bringing Tang Shangjun's experience into the public eye.
Tang Shangjun, born in 1989, grew up in a remote mountain village in Shangsi County, Fangchenggang City, Guangxi. Since 2009, Tang Shangjun has taken the college entrance examination 15 times: in 2009, she scored 372 points; In 2010, 405 points; In 2011, 475 points; In 2012, 505 points; In 2013, 530 points; In 2014, 573 points; In 2015, 587 points; In 2016, 625 points; In 2017, 570 points; In 2018, 619 points; In 2019, 646 points; In 2020, 619 points; In 2021, 591 points; In 2022, 597 points; In 2023, 594 points. He explained that the reason why he insisted on repeating the exam was initially because he did not do well in the exam, "at least getting into a second tier university.". Later on, when my grades improved and I did well in the exam, I felt hopeful that I would be able to do even better after repeating my studies, and even be admitted to Tsinghua University; When you don't do well in the exam, you won't be satisfied.
In recent years, Tang Shangjun has been admitted to well-known universities such as China University of Political Science and Law, Xiamen University, Guangxi University, Chongqing University, etc., but he did not attend any of them. In 2022, Tang Shangjun scored 597 points and was admitted to the nursing program at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His family and friends around him advised him to pursue his studies. In the end, he hesitated and did not report. He felt that his major was not suitable, and he performed poorly in the college entrance examination this time. Although he may not be able to pass the exam in Qingbei, he is confident that he will do better than this year.
This year's college entrance examination, Tang Shangjun scored 594 points, surpassing the first tier university entrance examination score of Guangxi University of Science and Technology by 119 points, ranking more than 6000 in Guangxi. Tang Shangjun's college entrance examination preferences include four schools: Beijing Normal University Zhuhai Campus, South China Normal University, Central China Normal University, and Zhejiang University. Tang Shangjun stated that considering his actual situation, he prioritizes pursuing a teacher training major.
According to Tang Shangjun, on the afternoon of July 18th, he checked the admission situation and found that his file had been uploaded to Central China Normal University, but was later rejected due to the reason showing that "the major has been filled up". "I never thought about this situation. Maybe the admission score this year is relatively high," Tang Shangjun explained, as he did not qualify for a special program, he went through the "normal batch". At that time, he applied for two majors, Physics and Chemistry, at Central China Normal University, both of which were teacher training programs, and chose not to accept the transfer. The reason for filling out the application in this way is that on the one hand, he thinks his score can be accepted, which is "relatively stable"; On the other hand, other majors are not teacher training and are not suitable for oneself, so I chose not to accept transfer.
According to the admission score released by the undergraduate enrollment website of Central China Normal University, the minimum admission scores for Chemistry and Physics majors at Guangxi University of Science and Technology in 2023 were 609 and 608 respectively, both higher than Tang Shangjun's college entrance examination scores this year.
It is worth noting that in 2021 and 2022, the lowest admission scores for the two majors of Chemistry and Physics at Central China Normal University in Guangxi were ranked around four to five thousand.
According to reports, the relevant person in charge of Central China Normal University responded that Tang Shangjun did not meet the admission score line for the major he applied for and did not comply with the adjustment, so he was expelled.
"Originally, I was ready to go to college and wait for the admission letter to arrive." Previously, Tang Shangjun said in an interview with Pengpai News that he would actively strive for a supplementary admission.
From 18:30 on July 19th to 9:00 on July 20th, Guangxi conducted the first round of voluntary recruitment for the first batch of undergraduate enrollment in ordinary universities in 2023. On the afternoon of the 20th, Tang Shangjun replied to the media, saying, "I am feeling very low and thinking about it. There is no suitable school or major, and I did not fill out a supplementary application." Speaking of my next plans, Tang Shangjun said, "Don't think about anything, go home. Even if I want to retake the exam, I probably won't be accepted by the school."
