At present, the high-quality rice base of 10000 acres in Hetian Town, Changting County, Fujian Province has welcomed a bumper harvest. Changting County was once one of the areas with the most severe soil erosion in the red soil region of southern China. After more than 30 years of soil erosion control, the local area has embarked on a high-quality development path of ecological improvement and economic development.
In the high-quality rice base of ten thousand acres, rice is gradually maturing and entering the harvest period. The stacked rice fields are golden, and the rice panicles are full. Farmers seize the sunny weather and drive harvesters to shuttle through the fields, completing rice threshing and straw crushing in one go.
Changting, Fujian used to be one of the areas with the most severe soil erosion in southern China. The beautiful mountains, muddy water, thin fields, and poor people were a true reflection of the ecological deterioration at that time. After more than 30 years of soil erosion control, the soil erosion rate in Changting has decreased from 31.5% in 1985 to 6.57% by the end of 2022.
Yue Hui, Director of Changting County Soil and Water Conservation Center: The people of Changting have been continuously striving for decades to promote comprehensive management of soil erosion and ecological restoration. The forest coverage rate has increased from 59.4% in 1985 to 79.55% by the end of 2022, and the ecological environment has been fundamentally improved, continuously releasing ecological dividends.
