Russian side: purely robbery, Canada seizes and confiscates Russian enterprise cargo planes Canada | Russia | Enterprise
Canadian Foreign Minister Jolly announced on June 10th that the Canadian government has ordered the seizure of an Antonov-124 cargo plane registered under a Russian company at Toronto Pearson International Airport under the Special Economic Measures Act.
This is the first physical asset seized by the Canadian government after implementing the asset seizure and confiscation system in accordance with its revised Special Economic Measures Law and other regulations in June last year. It is also the second asset seized and restricted by the Canadian government in accordance with its Special Economic Measures Law.
The seized cargo plane is believed to be owned by subsidiaries of Volga Dnieper Airlines and Volga Dnieper Group. Both entities have recently been listed as sanctioned by Canada.
After the Canadian side seized the cargo plane, it entered the judicial process of confiscation. The Canadian side stated that if the asset is confiscated by the Canadian government, they will cooperate with the Ukrainian government and choose to redistribute the asset.
After the Ukrainian crisis in early 2022, Canada implemented a no fly order against Russia in its airspace. This Russian Antonov-124 cargo plane, originally scheduled to leave Canada, was banned from taking off at Toronto Pearson International Airport and charged a huge parking fee by the airport authorities.
The Russian Embassy in Canada responded on its social media account that the cargo plane belongs to a private enterprise. The attempt by the Canadian side to seize the cargo plane itself is illegal, and it is purely a highway robbery. This move by the Canadian side indicates that under the rule of the Trudeau authorities, Canada cannot be ruled.
The first asset confiscated by Canada against Russia after the Ukraine crisis was $26 million from Russian tycoon Abramovich's Granite Capital Holdings Limited, which was announced to be seized and confiscated on December 19, 2022.
