Russia says it is investigating whether Western intelligence agencies are involved in the Wagner incident
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated in an interview with "Russia Today" television on the 26th that Russia is investigating whether Western intelligence agencies are involved in the Wagner incident.
Lavrov stated that he is aware of how Western media reports on what has happened in Russia. He pointed out that the US media had previously reported that the US intelligence agency had been aware of the impending rebellion a few days ago, but had decided not to tell anyone, "clearly hoping that the rebellion would succeed.".
Lavrov also said that the US Ambassador to Russia, Lynn Tracy, has informed the Russian side that this incident is Russia's internal affair and the US has nothing to do with the rebellion. Lavrov stated that the Russian side is investigating whether Western intelligence agencies are involved in this incident.
On the 26th, US President Biden delivered a speech at the White House stating that the United States and its allies were not involved in the recent Wagner incident that occurred within Russia and was classified by the Russian government as an "armed rebellion". Biden said he has coordinated with allied leaders on how to respond to the Wagner incident and instructed the White House national security team to prepare for a "range of possible scenarios.".
Biden also said that the United States is currently unable to draw a definitive conclusion on the direction of the domestic situation in Russia, and the final outcome of all the events that have occurred in the past few days remains to be observed. No matter what happens within Russia, the United States and its allies will continue to support Ukraine.
