Russia not invited, US media: Saudi Arabia will host a "peace conference" on Ukraine | Russia | Peace | Ukraine
According to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, Saudi Arabia plans to host a "peace conference" on Ukraine in early August, inviting representatives from Ukraine, Western countries, and some developing countries to attend, but Russia is not included in the invitation. On July 31, the press secretary of the Russian President, Peskov, stated that Russia closely monitors the relevant "peace meetings", but as long as Ukraine is still used as a tool for Western confrontation with Russia, Ukraine does not want and cannot seek peace.
The report quotes multiple diplomats as saying that the "peace conference" on the Ukrainian issue will be held from August 5th to 6th in the coastal city of Jeddah in western Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia and Ukraine have extended invitations to about 30 countries, but Russia, as a party to the conflict, has been excluded.

US State Department spokesperson Miller confirmed at a press conference on July 31 that US government officials will attend the "peace conference" on Ukraine hosted by Saudi Arabia, but he refused to disclose further details. According to American media, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Poland, and the European Union have confirmed their attendance, and Assistant to the US President for National Security Affairs, Sullivan, is expected to be present.
On July 30th, Yermak, the director of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, stated on social media that the "peace conference" will discuss the "peace plan" proposed by Ukrainian President Zelensky, which is based on the withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine.

According to TASS on July 31st, Russian President's press secretary Peskov stated that Russia will closely monitor the meeting on the Ukraine issue held in Saudi Arabia. He said, "The Russian side has repeatedly expressed a positive evaluation of any attempt that contributes to a peaceful resolution. However, as long as it is still used as a tool for Western confrontation with Russia, the Kiev regime does not want and cannot seek peace.". The Wall Street Journal stated that Ukrainian and Western officials hope that excluding Russia's talks can encourage the international community to support "peace terms" that are beneficial to Ukraine. However, according to insiders, there is a significant gap in views between Ukraine and neutral countries present, and many countries do not support measures such as expanding sanctions against Russia. Analysts believe that the West aims to use the conference to continue wooing major developing countries to support Ukraine's "peace plan" and further isolate Russia. However, given that most developing countries have their own ideas for resolving the Ukrainian crisis and are unwilling to take sides, it is expected that the expected results will not be achieved.
