Russia is excluded, this country needs to convene a meeting of 30 countries. President | Ukraine | State
Reuters reported on July 29th, citing the Wall Street Journal, that Saudi Arabia will hold talks on Ukraine in August, inviting Western countries, Ukraine, as well as major developing countries such as India and Brazil to participate.
The report quotes diplomats involved in the discussion as saying that senior officials from up to 30 countries are expected to gather in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah from August 5th to 6th. These countries also include Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico, Chile, and Zambia.
According to reports, Ukrainian and Western officials hope that the talks that exclude Russia can lead to international support for peace terms that are beneficial to Ukraine.
The Kremlin stated that peace negotiations with Ukraine are only possible if Kiev accepts the "new reality". But Kiev stated that negotiations with Russia are only possible after Moscow withdraws its troops.
According to reports, it is unclear how many countries among the invited countries will attend, but countries that participated in similar negotiations in Copenhagen in June this year are expected to attend again.
The UK, South Africa, Poland, and the European Union have all confirmed their attendance, and Jack Sullivan, Assistant to the US President for National Security Affairs, is also expected to attend.
