Russia: Cholera Pathogens Discovered in Odessa or Related to US Biolabs | Ukraine | Biotech
According to the Russian news agency Sputnik, Irina Yarovaya, Vice Chairman of the Russian State Duma, stated on the 19th that cholera pathogens found in Odessa and Nikolayev regions may be directly related to US biological laboratories in Ukraine.
Yarovaya stated in a statement that during the investigation, the Russian side confirmed the Pentagon's interest in studying cholera and rabbit fever, as well as the fact that the US is attempting to secretly and deliberately influence the region. The laboratory in the Odessa region was established by the United States in serious violation of safety requirements.
In February 2022, the Russian Ministry of Defense discovered 30 US funded military biological laboratories in Ukraine and stated that the US has spent over $200 million to develop biological weapons in these facilities. Russia also stated that the laboratories discovered in Ukraine only account for a small portion of the United States' network of over 300 similar facilities worldwide. The US firmly denies this.

On the 19th, the commander of the Russian radiation, chemical, and biological protection forces, Kirilov, held a press conference stating that the United States is transferring its biological laboratory to a third country, including Ukraine, due to the high risk of accidents in the US biological laboratory.
According to the survey, from 2015 to 2020, there were 28 accidents involving microbial aerosol transmission and biomaterial spillage during the genetic engineering of dangerous pathogens conducted solely in the laboratory of the University of North Carolina in the United States.
Kirilov stated that the military biological projects carried out by the US Department of Defense around the world, especially in Southeast Asia, have provided the possibility for it to obtain potential biological weapon media. The number of laboratories in the United States that handle biosafety levels three and four has rapidly increased in recent years.
Previous reports have shown that there are currently 25 laboratories in the United States that study high-risk viruses and bacteria, and an additional 3 laboratories are under construction. In the coming years, the United States plans to open 18 more biosafety level 4 laboratories.
